Re: Northern Lights Express
I just looked and a random 1 hour ride (Saturday May 3, 2014 12:30 PM, the Lakefront Zephyr) is $11 for adults and $7 for children. That doesn't seem like too much, I'd pay that for a roundtrip from Duluth on Friday and back Sunday evening. Somebody could run coach service to see how much demand th...

Re: Snelling BRT/enhanced bus
Extending the Snelling BRT westward along 42nd/46th and creating a connection between the Blue and Orange Lines and future Nicollet Street Car makes a lot more sense to me than heading northward to hinterlands. If the Orange Line were LRT, I bet the original A-Line plans would included the connectio...

Re: Midtown Corridor
Looking at Page 7, how awesome would it be to turn the 'enhanced bus' portion into rail and then interline the Midtown Corridor with the Green Line and create a Circle line? Sounds expensive and challenging to engineer but it would provide direct rail connections between Downtown, Uptown, the U, Mid...

Re: Orchestra Hall
The old lobby certainly was too small, but I liked the cleanness of the international style and how it harmonized with the auditorium.. This might be because I'm used to seeing it from above, but the new main window on 10th seems comically large, hence the garish.

Re: Orchestra Hall
I agree, the commentary on the Orchestra contract negotiations is off-topic.
The new lobby itself I happen to think is poorly timed (considering relations with labor) and a garish ode to short-term architectual fads at the expense of the building's modern, international style.

Re: Orchestra Hall
The remaining musicians' fiat is foolish at best. Those who could get a comparable deal at another orchesta have done so already. The remaining musicians will have a difficult time earning anywhere near what management is offering now or has offered from the beginning; many will be lucky to even fin...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT)
I suspect we generally associate buses with the poor and riding trains with sophisticated New Yorkers and Europeans. MetroTransit sending standing-room only buses to the one actual 'highway' BRT station in the system every 30 minutes certainly supports that association. The enormous cost of governme...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT)
As a daily user of 46th/35W Station and former daily rider of Chicago's L, I am convinced that online stations with buses running in HOT lanes provide an adequate and in many ways superior experience to trains. That said, mixing these 'LRT'-like stations with normal bus stations and routes makes it ...

Re: Nicollet Mall
As a Wisconite turned Minnesotan I find this highly ironic. A man's name is Nicolet. Some dunce west of the Mississippi decides to add an l and start pronouncing the t. These happen to be the same people who pronounce New Prague and Mille Lacs with utter disregard for pronunciation norms. Heh. I di...
