Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services

I live on Blaisdell as well. They are installing the mainline in the boulevard in front of my house today.
Just curious, which side of Blaisdell are they running it down... east or west?

Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services

Saw them working on Blaisdell Ave. yesterday as well. So pumped! I live on Blaisdell and yesterday they came out to do the internal install (NID box, internal fiber, switch, & configuration). They said the external install would be a couple days to a couple weeks away and that I could call toda...

Re: Southside - General Topics

What are the chances of future C2 rezonings along Nicollet and 38th? Once "Scary Kmart" is redeveloped, this could be the catalyst for further redevelopment stretching south and then to the east across sections of the city somewhat under-served.

Re: Southside - General Topics

It's the 5 contiguous acres of commercial zoning that kills it. These little nodes are only half block depth (to the alley) and don't contain any larger parcels that help you out with that calculation. Somehow, I doubt "contiguous" includes properties across the street either. They likely...

Re: Southside - General Topics

Best Food Market at 3756 Nicollet Ave S closed its doors for good on April 18th. Even though the place was run down and constantly being broke into, it was nice to have a little market like this in the neighborhood. The space is sandwiched between Kyatchi and Hot Wok, directly across the street from...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

Pedestrian bridge update: http://finance-commerce.com/2015/04/deal-near-for-vikings-stadium-pedestrian-bridge/ Are there other renderings? That rendering makes it look like passengers will have to walk westbound a ways from the platform before gaining access to the stairs. At that point some may ch...

Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services

Hmm, the table of streets shows mine's coverage stopping *1.5 blocks* short of our house, but the map of Field shows us getting service. I really hope the map is right but I suspect the table is correct. Dammit. Note that all of the addresses in the updated table are listed as "Summer 2015&quo...

Re: Favorite Buildings

For me, it's Northland Plaza in Bloomington: http://northlandpl.com http://www.emporis.com/buildings/125014/northland-plaza-bloomington-mn-usa I love the way the building reflects onto itself as you drive by on France Ave. Your senses loose track of which lines, panels, and shadows are real and whic...

Re: Minneapolis Fiber

We actually have started, the weather has been kind to us so far and we are working hard to get everyone live as soon as possible. New area installation should start by April 1 and we will be going full stream all summer long. Any chance the website will be updated soon with the 2015 build-out map ...

Re: Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)

A sneak peak at the menu:

http://blogs.citypages.com/food/2015/03 ... s_menu.php

I don't know what to think about the "Minnesoter Dog" but the corned beef hash looks pretty awesome!

The article states that opening is at the end of April.

Re: Minneapolis Cable Television

Hopefully MLB will figure out a standalone web-only service soon That's actually been around for quite some time: http://www.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions/ Only the offseason subscription is being offered now for $25. The regular season is something like $100-$120 for the entire season and you can watc...

Minneapolis Cable Television

A search didn't find a top level topic for cable television service. Hopefully I'm not duplicating a more appropriate one by starting this. The City Council approved Comcast's request to transfer its franchise agreement to "GreatLand Connections": http://www.southwestjournal.com/news/city-...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System

I've spent the last 5 years working in downtown St. Paul and now know the skyway system like the back of my hand. I recently realized that even though I know how to get between any two points within it using the most efficient path, doing so from the outside is a challenge. I think that's due to wal...

Re: Impound Lot

It's concerning that the city encourages towing closest to the impound lot. Why? What benefit does it give to the city? My only guess is that it's a faster tow. With a limited number of trucks, the faster the tows the more cars that get towed. Unfortunately, those of us on the other side of the zon...

Re: Minneapolis Fiber

Yeah, the same fiber can deliver 25Mbps or 100Gbps and doesn't need to be re-run. However, each step up above the current highest offering does consume additional resources before it can be offered to customers: changes to software, endpoint electronics, testing, etc. These aren't free and consume t...

Here's another article that claims they're also working on 40Gbps and 100Gbps: http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_27194397/u-s-internet-rolls-out-faster-service-minneapolis I'd rather have them focus on rolling out 1Gbps fiber (or less) to new customers at a faster rate. Maybe it's just because ...

Anyone have any inkling about USI's 2015 build-out plans? The only pending/under construction indications on their webpage is Lowry Hill. I really hope they reach our house before CenturyLink.

Hot Wok Delivery has moved into the old Apho location on Nicollet & 38th. I believe it's their third location in the Twin Cities. Their website doesn't appear to be taking online orders yet: http://www.hotwokdelivery.com And they appear to be raising funds even after opening on kickstarter: http...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Skyways serve an essential function to people who actually live and/or work downtown in a climate like ours. Without skyways the streets would certainly look more "alive" but I'd argue it might actually have a negative economic impact on the city core. It's likely far fewer downtown worker...
