Re: Subsidized and/or Affordable Housing

Thoughtless was a strong word, so I apologize about that, but I guess my point was that the only affordable homes for families are in areas where crime is an issue or the schools are terrible, or both. There is definitely nowhere near enough supply to satiate affordable housing demand. If I could f...

Re: Legacy Condominiums - 121 12th Ave S

Working families aren't getting priced out of the housing market here. I just did a search and found about 50 3+ bedroom houses in the City of Minneapolis for less than $100,000. Vast majority (and increasingly so) of those houses are in the Northside. You're advocating that we do nothing to challe...

Re: Legacy Condominiums - 121 12th Ave S

Where are those houses? Are they in decent school districts? There is definitely a shortage of affordable housing in the city and metro, but this may not be the best place to put that housing anyway, I agree there. All these houses are in the City of Minneapolis so no they aren't in a good school d...

Re: Stanton Condo Project - 121 12th Ave S

The utility is more housing. More housing means the people who will end up living there won't have to come steal your place and price you out of it. Is it that hard to understand? The people who will eventually price me out of my place in South will be hip young newlyweds with college degrees and s...

I don't know if that will be a reason to update the signage. The skyways close at 6 on Sundays.

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System

Wait, L45 spent the money to put in a public skyway access w/elevator, totally separated from their internal spaces and connected only to the city-owned skyway, and it isn't even open to the public? It's open to the public (or at least to me) from the skyway, but not from the street. It's not total...

Re: West Loop / Farmers Market / Royalston Station

Looks like we might still get the Farmer's Market Soccer Stadium. http://kstp.com/news/stories/s3998789.shtml KSTP's desperate attempt to try and get a few viewers. Not going to happen with the money that they have already sunk into the designs for the St. Paul site and all. Don't think the east si...

From reading the comments on this article it appears this will be very bad for the city.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

That is a rarity. The Minneapolis Tourism storefront or whatever it is that got carved out of the new Centerpoint space also won't have skyway access, but I can't think of any other examples of commercial spaces in skyway-connected buildings without an interior entrance, anywhere in downtown. Chipo...

Re: Downtown Parking

16 million for 455 surface spaces in that location seems like too high of a price for the intention to be surface parking forever. I think they are betting on higher land value and holding it as parking until they can make a nice profit. This feels a vote of confidence in downtown development by a s...

Re: Zentro / Thresher Square - (713 Washington Ave S)

I think it's foolish that they cut out the skyway connection. In the grand scheme of things it wasn't much money and it would have added a lot of value to the project.

Re: Minneapolis Armory

The Haff Ramp is connected to the tunnels.
Is the ramp its self connected to the tunnels, or just that the ramp is connected to the Grain exchange which is connected to the tunnels?

The ramp itself. Take the elevator or stairs to the basement and you can take it to the Federal Courthouse.

Re: 10th & Marquette Development

I'm pretty frustrated by this development. The Handicraft Guild Building may have had the highest density of storefronts in all of downtown, a good example of what retail used to look like all around downtown before urban renewal and the desire for moar parking caused so many smaller buildings to d...
