Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
Forgive me for my ignorance, but is this proposed for the entire lot across 5th from Thrivant Financial? From the picture it looks like there is a Skyway connection on the east and west sides of the building. Does that mean that the Hennepin County Medical Center will be connected to the Skyway? I g...

Re: Crime
Crime rate is at a 50 year low. I think it's funny that I hear from people how bad crime is now. My observation has always been that it's much safer now than when I was younger. In 2016 there 100 murders in Minnesota. For contrast there were 99 murders in the city of Minneapolis in 1995. I don't kno...

Re: Crime
This article is stupid. I can tell you why the "feeling" on Hennepin Ave changed. All the bus routes that used to stop on Nicollet are now on Hennepin. A certain percentage of the population are going to be criminal or antisocial. If you increase the number of people on a street you increa...

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar
After this disastrously long Nicollet re-do, it's going to take a long time for the DT businesses to get motivated to lose their street for another few years for a street car. I hope this happens in my lifetime though! The mall is being built ready for this streetcar line. Construction on Nicollet ...

Re: Tenant Rights in Minnesota
Do renters have any rights in terms of having power restored in a timely manner after an outage? Our power went out this morning, and Xcel just texted me saying it should be back on by 11am on June 14 . (!!!!) I never had to deal with a 3 day wait to have power restored growing up in a SFH. Your la...

The concrete will be fine. The gum and staining can be easily pressure washed off.
DID is out late pressure washing sidewalks all the time.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I know the forum hates encouraging people to drive, but I think that for some of these areas to thrive on non-game days, they need to bring down off-peak parking rates. Sure, it makes sense to charge $100 to park in the Mills Fleet Farm ramp on game day, and it probably makes sense to charge $15 du...

Re: Century Plaza redevelopment - 330 South 12th St
Besides, there's still a giant, unused surface lot in that area. Maybe this renovation will kickstart some interest in building something bigger there. That lot is for sale along with the now vacant Christian Scientist Church building. http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/real_estate/2016/01/...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
It frustrates me to no end. I don't mind having money funnel outstate to some extent, but when they're being vindictive to the core cities and declaring that the flow of money is from outstate to the metro (which, by population, is false) and acting on that rhetoric, I start becoming tempted to pus...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Very much so. As far as I know, all we've got for actual public bathrooms downtown are at Target Field Station (intermittently open, don't seem to have posted hours), the library (open decently late on weeknights, not so much on weekends), City Hall/Government Center (business hours) and the Common...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
If they're worried about all the new car traffic they should build it without all those parking spaces. According to the City of Coon Rapids traffic counts Northdale Dr has about 15000 cars per day. Even if this development produces 2 car trips per day per unit that's only a 5% increase in traffic....

Speaking of fares a bill was introduced in the House to require transit within the 7 county metro area to have at least an 80% farebox recovery ratio.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
No. Resolutions don't need the Governor's signature. If it's passed it won't be a law it will be the Minnesota legislature formally asking the Federal government if they can use the money for something else than it was intended for.It still needs to pass the governor, right?
