Re: Custom House - Downtown Saint Paul Post Office
I drove over the new highway 52 bridge over the weekend. There is a construction elevator attached to building!

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
SF is also getting a 400' apartment/condo building by Studio Gang. I think the 222 project had the benefit of being "first" of 3 empty corners at this prominent intersection. With plenty of opportunity, people generally people aren't as picky. Does it really matter what you are having for ...

Perhaps a building should?
So in other words, we are to dress in according to the year the home we live in was constucted?

Re: Superior Plating site
Actually, any building on this lot would only have river views on floors 15 or higher. Floors 8 or 9 would be able to see downtown. I think it's a good thing that the developer is walking away from this. It would be nice to have a taller building here, but I'd favor two 4-6 story buildings with a p...

Re: Alatus St. Anthony Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site)
It's not that this is the wrong place for design criticism-- This is EXACTLY the place for it. But saying 'the tower is awful" and "this is a bad building" "decent but derivative"-- okay, why are they so bad, exactly? And grading on every building on "urbanism" as...

Re: Alatus St. Anthony Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site)
Then it sound like it maybe more retro looking to blend in with the historic nature of the area. Hopefully this mean more brick and stone vs cement board and ill fitting metal panels. I wouldn't worry about cement board on this. Hardy is limited to 60' due to wind load (see the connection here with...

Now that looks like a winner in my book. Simple massing, with a thoughtful material palette.

Re: District 600 - (600 Fifth Street North)
78 units in 6 floors is relatively small-scale considering many of the current projects going up right now, but I didn't realize it was only half built. Does that mean there will be another section that will rise 6 floors somewhere else? I've never seen a project be built in phases like that....usu...

It looked like they have most of the horizontal red panel in and it looks nice. Too bad they couldn't have done a little more with the horizontal louvers.

Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
Let my start out by saying I really enjoy the massing of Velo and I actually have no problem with the exterior material palette. What I do have quite a big issue with and I find theat it is systemic within the building type is the logic behind the exterior material composition. The first picture bel...

Re: Thresher Square
The apartments with 2 levels of parking would be about a third of that. When you add a skyway and rehab of a 7 story historic building, the number jumps up pretty quick. With the tax credits, developers tend to spend more to get a higher end product knowing they are paying a fraction.

I drive by every morning on the way to work. Just what I need, more construction to look at and buildings to critic! I love all of the activity in this area. That street car needs to get funded ASAP, so this build up can creep up Central!

Re: WaHu Student Housing - (1016 Washington Avenue Southeast
I agree, I really like the layering that occurs and how the massings are broken up without looking like they are meant to look like different buildings.I like this design a lot better. This is a huge project, and it appears like two different projects and breaks it up nicely.

Not everything that is old is worth saving... now if only they could build components in a way that could be reused...
