Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Or those sweeper machines they use on campus. They could even convert a few bobcats to this use in winter. Went to a Hennepin County listening session in North Minneapolis last night in regards to their bicycle plan. They talked briefly about the North Minneapolis greenway. Up here we have great amm...

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Election
Yang seemed really sharp on the campaign trail, and I'm eager to see him in office. Also will be good to have a more rounded CM for this ward; I like Samuels but he's uninterested in every issue but crime and schools it seems. Not just "it seems." Samuels was not well-liked in Near North....

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
RailBaronYarr we all know the advantages of 3C at this point. I also agree that a stop could probably be cut in EP. A similar argument for LRT/Streetcar was made up here during the alignment debates for the North Minneapolis portion of Bottineau. Most, even ardent Penn Avenue supporters, came to the...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Or does LRT now only exist for transit-dependent populations? That's news to me. Was it? It seems like serving transit-dependent North Minneapolis folks is a major reason to support a 3A alignment. I completely agree that there are plenty of non-transit dependent people within a 1+ mile radius of t...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
But with 3A not everyone would go through Royalston. That is where I see the larger savings. aBRT/enhanced bus on Penn that goes to the Penn station could be a big win over heading downtown. I totally understand what you're saying. I agree that 3A won't be a large improvement for *all* of North, bu...

The Green Bridge at Mile End Park in London more or less does this. Even has shops under the bridge. Oh man does this take me back to my semester abroad in east London. https://www.google.com/search?q=mile+end+bridge&oq=mile+end+bridge&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l3&client=ms-android-sprint-us&am...

May have to sell or rent my place to get in here. Both the Schmidt building and this will be great for working artists.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
It clearly states in the memorandum to CPED that the south side of the 1500 space lot will be developed in phase 1 into an apartment, but is dependent on negotiations with stadium board. Other three sides will be screened a la the C ramp. Bookend building to the park looks appropriately scaled. Not ...

Re: Capri Block RFP
Nick I've worked closely with the West Broadway Coalition and I can vouch for you. Most of the greasy spoons are owned by Middle Easterners. I just wish they'd open a middle eastern place instead of a Chicago-style joint or bad pizza place. A few different businesses are Asian owned. Most of the bar...

Re: Capri Block RFP
Moderato, while the Capri Block is very much up in the air, the Crescent and Broadway Flats are inching closer to construction. Affordable housing has extremely complex funding schemes. I was actually relatively happy with the state of Penn and Broadway before the tornado. Unfortunately the loss of ...

Re: Skye at Arbor Lakes
I've been doing some photo shoots out in the western suburbs and I was particularly impressed by Town Green. Lots of praise heaped on Bloomington Central, but Town Green is really well designed park. If this central park is at the same level of design it would be a huge win for Maple Grove.

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Election
Ian is the urbanist of the bunch. Formerly a republican if that matters. His thesis on West Broadway when at the Humphrey Institute is available online. He nearly had the endorsement, but I believe due to the use of RCV they only had a few ballots and he just came up short. Buckner is an Urban Leagu...

Re: Nicollet Mall
As a Wisconite turned Minnesotan I find this highly ironic. A man's name is Nicolet. Some dunce west of the Mississippi decides to add an l and start pronouncing the t. These happen to be the same people who pronounce New Prague and Mille Lacs with utter disregard for pronunciation norms. Heh. I di...

Re: Nicollet Mall
New rule: Anyone who misspells Nicollet in this thread has to move to Wisconsin. This is exactly who Corner's proposal is aimed at. Wisconsinites who want to take pictures of the "Skyway Mirrors on Nicollette [sic]." I guess it's ok -- I'll just continue to avoid the street like I do now....

That's the old parking garage across from Xcel's hq, not the Nic's garage. That's going to be demoed for Xcel's expansion in a few years.

Re: Van White Memorial Bridge
I'm not sure how widely known it is, but the city (and Ryan, apparently) have some seemingly lofty visions for the area around this bridge: http://www.journalmpls.com/news/news/a-bridge-to-overcome-barriers I know about the Bassets Creek development. This bridge was part of the Holman decree, which...

Re: Van White Memorial Bridge
Finally drove this today after coming back to north from Uptown. I don't get how it wasn't possible to properly connect the ice arena's new street directly to the bridge and create an intersection at Dunwoody. Then the 5 northsiders who even know it exists could've skipped the Lowry Tunnel area. It'...
