Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
I've kayaked the channel and it's a magical place. Much more so than the Kenilworth trail above it.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Near North was not a term invented for SW LRT. Thank you for pointing this out. Near North is in fact a neighborhood and the larger community south of Lowry. The community north of Lowry is Camden fyi. Anyways I'd love to have Bottineau skip SW in line, but that's because it'll be more useful for me.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Looks like Hodges is bringing 3c back also. Where do you get that from? All I read is her opposing at-grade through Kenilworth. No mention of 3C or Uptown at all. From the article "Some of the options dropped early in the process because of cost need to be re-examined, she said. Hodges, a City...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Looks like Hodges is bringing 3c back also. Interestingly she says the feds shouldn't have an issue with more study including the alternative alignments. Now we have three mayoral candidates questioning the Kenilworth alignment. http://www.minnpost.com/two-cities/2013/08/minneapolis-mayoral-candidat...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Obviously, SF is on another level than Minneapolis... Yes, and I believe it is the street level. As in, not the skyway level. Downtown San Francisco proper isn't all that interesting. Yes, it's got tall buildings and many of the same uses as downtown Minneapolis and no it doesn't have skyways. It's...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Precisely. People are missing the larger strategic goal here; SWLRT is one step in a larger process. I'm not doubting that it is.. but even with it being a relatively low-hanging fruit transit-project, politically (existing ROW for most of the line) and technically (very few if any tunnels or major...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
I was just in San Francisco over the weekend and walked at least 6-7 miles around downtown and there were restaurants and retail EVERYWHERE! Obviously, SF is on another level than Minneapolis, but why it's on such a different level I don't quite understand. Yes, SF is a bigger, more important city ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Holy cow, are you all saying that a station that serves North Minneapolis and would be the centerpiece of a large TOD development on an industrial wasteland is a *bad* idea? Do you have any idea at all how that comes off to people who actually live in the area? Please please please *talk* to people...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Or how about a token station in an area thats "North" in name only so you can say, loudly, that it does serve North? Please go tell residents that Van White is a token station. Please do it. Let me know how that goes for ya. It's a token station that will be developed for new residents fr...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
I noticed my Freudian slip up top. I meant government mandated monopoly. If you think these utilities should get carte blanche then fine. I'd like them get to pushed to make bigger strides in clean energy. If power generation was somehow a free market endeavor we wouldn't have to cow tow to Xcel. I ...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
Not everything is as simple as we want more tall buildings now. The city is inept at times, but Xcel et al run government run monopolies. There needs to be give and take in order to get some concessions from Xcel. Let the city play hardball. I'll risk one new nice midrise.

My 2010 Honda Insight has auto-stop. It freaks out first time passengers when you come to a stop and the car is silent. It's a relatively affordable car, but can you do this on a non-hybrid?

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
It is positioned on the western block and will only take up 1/3rd of that block or 1/6th of the entire park. That doesn't include the third block that is the stadiums plaza and the LRT station. I'm hopeful that the two block park and the one block plaza will be designed in tandem. Then that third of...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Increasing density especially in Harrison, Near North and the general Holman Decree area is hugely important. I'm just calling bs on the Van White stop really being an equity issue. It'll be better at spurring development than serving any existing population. Your statement above seems contradictor...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Bottineau serves a completely different travelshed and isn't really relevant here. You ask a fair question about a downtown transfer. Right now, it is pretty tough to get downtown from much of North. Sure, there's service but the 5 and the 19 are the only Hi Frequency buses that run up there. And e...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Kenilworth alignment would open up completely new transit options for North Minneapolis. For 4k Harrison residents out of 60k residents in north. That means ~56,000 will require a transfer from bus service (hopefully aBRT) to Van White station. What bus line goes to Glenwood? How is that substantia...

Re: Calhoun-Isles Redesign
i wish we had a bill gates type to help with our park system. i agree this is a great idea but parks dept seems stretched as it is with the riverfirst projects. the bike/walk path on the bridge is a clusterbleep for sure. these paths need to separated at some point. They can certainly work with the...

Cycletracks between a bike trail and a bike highway? Not exactly a place screaming for that type of infrastructure. Any plan for this should come after Water Works, Scherer Park and the northside landbridge.

Click on yay up above. Or if you're too lazy...yes....and have we figured out if they're actually having a retail presence? The party line was always that it might only sell containers, right?
