My bad, I didn't think the Holiday was open that long.Interesting. Google Streetview shows the Speedway being open as recently as summer of 2019, and the Holiday open as early as September of 2014, so a fair amount of overlap.

Re: MSP Airport
IIRC, MAC owns the land, the Speedway closed not too long after the Holiday on 34th opened.Did the MAC acquire the old Speedway? I guess I didn't realize that it had closed.

Re: MSP Airport
Any idea of what's going to happen with the old building across 5 from the Delta hangars? It's been empty for a while. Same with the abandoned Speedway? That would make a great viewing area when planes are coming in over the river.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and TCMC
What do they currently use it for? A crew base for Empire Builder? If it's sitting un-used and they already have a station at St. Paul Grand Central, why do they need or want to preserve the Midway station? Perhaps they are planning on using it for the second train overnight parking and base for cr...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
The issue is the GOP wants to pull the mgmt and direction of metro transit to a state level so that if they win house, senate and governorship then can control it. They hate it and shave always wanted to scrap it and will never allow the system to expand… I seem to remember that when Pawlenty got e...

If I remember right, all the contracts for both the blue and green lines were signed before construction began or soon after, what happened this time that the project is delayed again?

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Considering how far along the project is, I highly doubt they will stop the whole thing, especially considering the feds are paying for half of it. Delayed, maybe but I doubt it will be stopped.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I think a lot of people will use it recreationally. Especially with plans to flesh out a little more of cedar lakes Park area to the north. It reminds me of being in Berlin and taking the train to Wanssee or something like that, and those stops were heavily used. Might be to the chagrin of the neig...

Plus convincing BNSF to let them run from St Paul to Duluth might be a challenge.Maybe the friends of the 261 could do excursion trains on the route. I know they've done it in the past but I don't know if it will be easier or harder with the NLX infrastructure in place.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder to Chicago
I can see LaCresent-Minnesota City being re-double tracked, and probably a third main from St Paul Yard and up the hill due to CP tying up one main for crew changes and the climb up the hill. Not sure about the rest of the BNSF-CP segment or the rest of the river sub for that matter (cue the NIMBYS ...

Didn't Metro Transit try this exact design when the Blue line was first proposed and got shot down by the FTA? Why can't it end at the existing mall station?

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder to Chicago
Does BNSF's traffic levels on the line even support a third main? Not to be a negative Nelly but I don't see a third main going in anytime soon until Northstar returns to pre-pandemic ridership levels and then some to justify the cost, and also depends on the NIMBY factor north of Fridley. If they a...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder to Chicago
Milwaukee has an airport stop, but it's only served by the Hiawatha's, As for Minneapolis having a stop, Target field station was considered , but it would require a lengthy backup move which would screw with timing and BNSF wouldn't allow it.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
This has been kicked around pretty much since the line opened with nothing being done, granted COVID isn't helping. Besides, judging by some of their articles about either Northstar or LRT, the Star Trib has a bias against commuter rail or LRT.
