Re: Amundson Hall Addition
Keller bugs me because for such a huge building (it's the biggest building on campus by volume) it feels like so much space is wasted on curved and diagonal walls. The College of Science & Engineering has a serious space crunch across all departments and the best we can build is a 4 story buildi...

Re: WaHu Student Housing - (1016 Washington Avenue Southeast
Alright, I'll take back what I say about Caspian, that sounds like a pretty cool place, I'll have to be sure to check it out. But I'm still not convinced on the auto parts store. It also sounds like a cool little business and certainly something that makes an urban area interesting, but is that real...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)
At least I'd like the train to go down 82nd st into the mall instead of that stupid loop. The whole reason for it is because MOA was a bunch of jerks, and said they never wanted the train ever, so there was going to be a station on 82nd in the middle of a parking ramp, and you'd have to walk through...

Re: WaHu Student Housing - (1016 Washington Avenue Southeast
Hmm, looks like your correct, I guess I hopefully assumed that the bistro and LIttle Dearborn was one building along with Splatball. Someone please redevelop little dearborn! We don't need an antique auto parts store a few blocks from a light rail stop. And I don't think a Bistro that isn't even ope...

Re: Green Line (Central)
From looking at that PDF mulad posted, it's not possible because there's no track that goes between the West Bank station and the Cedar Ave station, I think they'd need to build another identical junction to make that happen. As cool as that would be, I don't think there's much benefit. The long ter...

Re: WaHu Student Housing - (1016 Washington Avenue Southeast
I now work across the street from this site. I was thinking that the LIttle Dearborn auto parts store was ripe for development, and as it turns out this includes that. It's actually 1016, 1024, and 1032 Washington Ave that are included in this, so pretty much the whole block bounded by Huron, Washin...

I'm sure it doesn't look that good up close, but the plywood protection looks pretty cool in these pictures.

Re: Green Line (Central)
So wait, does that mean it's possible for a train to go from Cedar Ave station to West Bank station without going into the Downtown East/Metrodome station and then backing out? Or am I misunderstanding that. I suppose if anybody has some pretty pictures of what exactly is going on that would be awes...

Re: Green Line (Central)
I saw that picture and I'm confused, what is that third track for? How could they even be running Hiawatha while they're welding the Hiawatha and Central together?

Re: Green Line (Central)
I remember someone saying earlier (maybe even on Minnescraper, and maybe it was mulad) that they're taking their time on the Bridge and not trying to get it done early enough to do a campus stub line. There also wouldn't be rolling stock to pull it off, and even if there was rolling stock there's no...

Re: Renting vs. Owning
I hear it all the time, but what does it mean when a rental "looks" like it can be converted to condos? Where is it written that rental housing has to be substandard in comparison to owner occupied housing?

Re: Bus stops
Those QR codes are terrible. They're too high up in the air and the URL they point to is way too complicated. They need to be shortened (using the Us own URL shortener, z.umn.edu) and also they need to be at eye level or below (and preferably multiple copies in the shelter etc) and not 10 feet in th...

Re: 36 Park Apartments - St. Louis Park
Is this poured concrete walls? Seems kind of strange that this can be profitable at that height, but we can't build stuff on campus like this even though price per square foot is higher.

That's nearly a quarter of the units being lost. I wonder if they're losing smaller units on the bottom floors, or just making everything bigger, or what?

Re: Northern Lights Express
I think Duluth has a pretty good transit system. It has much better coverage than Metro Transit, and the frequency on the line between downtown and West Duluth is really good - I've used it for bus trips lots of times, and I don't think it would be too scary for someone who took a train in the firs...

from the brochure: "for those who choose the renting lifestyle" maybe I'm overly sensitive, but that sounds kind of snotty. Like, "for those who choose to be deviants", or "for those who choose to be second-class citizens" I'm not going to derail another thread with th...

Re: Northern Lights Express
I would also take more trips up to Duluth if I could hop a train Friday night and be back into Minneapolis Sunday night. The Downtown is pretty compact, and by the area between Downtown and the Aerial bridge has a lot of hotels and is within walking distance to Downtown.

Re: Nicollet Residences - (455 Nicollet Mall)
?????Condos suck? If you want to build a community you don't do it through renting. Sorry, that just seems like an odd take. It's not a completely off the wall idea to say that condos suck. They didn't even exist 50 years ago. They do make it basically impossible to redevelop them, unless you have ...
