Re: Future cars / Driverless cars

I work with humans daily. We're very flawed. (sort've joking, sort've not) Computers don't ever want to kill people (at least, that's how we will program them). The computer decides based off of the way we design them. If we design them to always prioritize the driver (which is how humans operate mo...

Re: Future cars / Driverless cars

^is that scarier than a human determining who's life is more valuable (in which case it would always be the driver of the vehicle, regardless of any other facts or circumstances)?

Maybe that's too philosophical.

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development

I *think* it's because Hy-Vee would be less likely to open a store nearby with a direct competitor (Cub) next door. But if the Cub had to close, it would open the door for Hy-Vee to locate nearby and take over the market in that area. Now, I don't know what's to stop Hy-Vee from doing that, regardle...

And they have a website, but there's nothing there yet. Kind've a bland design, IMO: https://www.thegreatnorthernfestival.com/

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

I was thinking the 13' couldn't really be given to the path anyways, with the power line in the way.

Matt, I forgot about that path. My goodness... they could have easily hooked this up the the Diagonal Trail. Hopefully that can happen soon.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

^It's nice, but it's really squeezed in there with those power lines. The 2' southernmost grass strip seems unnecessary; why not pave it to give people a little more room? This is also going to create a nightmarish intersection at Johnson (an already terrible intersection). Side note: could there be...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Credit card/Paypal processing fees are probably the reason for the all day rush hour rate and the $4.50 minimum. Oh, I'm sure you're right. It's still a detriment to the system, though. Although--there aren't similar restrictions on using a credit card at an LRT stop, so not sure what the discrepan...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

This is a fantastic idea--if implemented well. I know dozens of people who would utilize this. EXCEPT: The $4.50/2 ticket minimum purchase is going to kill it. Absolutely kill it. I don't understand how that's an acceptable solution. WHO BUYS 2 TICKETS TO RIDE THE BUS?? Basically, the only time this...

Re: CPM 16-Story Apartment Proposal - 1315-19 4th St SE (Mesa/Camdi/Chatime site)

I'm really disappointed in the massing. It just sucks. Anytime your building section is literally a rectangle -- that's a problem. It's not really sensitive at all to anything. I agree it's a lazy design, regardless of what stage it is at. If this is 10% design they shouldn't have presented it to th...

Re: Mall of America Transit Station: Master Plan

I dunno, it just seems shortsighted to be investing more money in a dead-end station. Like, they'd have to demo a ton of stuff to even think about extending this line, right? Why?..

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development

Looks like some cost-cutting as well as general refinement/improvement. Unless they're adding seats elsewhere, the capacity is decreased without the full bowl.
