Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
The Mitchell Station is close to several large apartment communities with large immigrant communities (two around Mitchell and Valley View) and one large complex that is under construction on the NE corner of 212 & Mitchell. It would still be barely walkable to SW Station (I've done it!), but i...

Re: ADM to Relocate Global Headquarters - MPLS in the Mix
Chicago O'hare is pretty much the only hub in the midwest. Detroit probably has a lot of the same destinations as Minneapolis (being a Delta hub and all), and United's hub in Cleveland is quite small (mainly regional jets, no international flights).

Re: Bloomington
Bloomington is far from the worst. The streets have the ability to become more walkable (a lot of low-traffic 4-lanes that are better as 3-lane streets), and if transit is improved on the main roads (American, Nicollet, 35W, Old Shakopee) a decent transit-share could be created. Additionally a lot o...

Re: Public Schools
There was a program in Minneapolis a while ago (I believe it's now ended) but it essentially allowed (and bused) Minneapolis students to enroll in select north, south, and west metro districts. It was created because of a lawsuit over the quality of Minneapolis schools, however, recent studies showe...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
The Mitchell station serves the Eden Prairie City Hall as well as the surrounding industrial park. I would imagine a significant chunk of the ridership will come from the nearly 1000 space parking ramp. As for 21st St., I don't think it is a big loss. Ridership will definitely be low, and it isn't a...

Re: Northstar
With the increasing availability of 4G LTE (and faster connections being developed now), I honestly think investing in WiFi on public transit is a waste of money.

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT)
The Knox Ave option is quite a good one, IMO. At 76th Street there is good access to the Best Buy HQ, and a lot of apartments are within a half-mile walk. The American Boulevard stop will serve the senior hi-rise and office tower, and hopefully Southtown and the car dealerships can become redevelope...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor
The only way I could see space being taken away from the Nicollet Garage is if the Heywood II garage gets built soon.
There is a large site located just northeast of the Superior Plating building that could be used as a streetcar OMF.

It's expanded too all high school students who qualified for busing before. I wonder if Saint Paul will ever make such a move.

Re: Red Rock
It would make sense to have the Gateway Corridor BRT buses extend to Minneapolis. It's a shorter route, will have better off-peak (and peak for that matter) ridership, and will probably have a more diverse location of destinations. Additionally, Red Rock BRT riders would have a simple and easy trans...

Looks like the interior bike racks are going to be phased out (once the 147st St Station has a step for bikers from the platform to the roadway) and replaced with external racks on the front of the bus.

Re: Red Rock
So it seems that the new BRT option is getting a lot of promotion. It would be really nice if Red Rock BRT buses can continue along the Gateway ROW into downtown St. Paul. http://redrockrail.org/images/content/publicmeeting031913.pdf http://redrockrail.org/pdf/July%202013%20AAU%20Workshop%20Presenta...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Keeping the buses on Bryant is a good idea. It's a nice distance between the Hennepin and Grand Ave buses. If the 4 is ever moved over to Lyndale, then the Grand Ave bus might as well be canceled. The ridership is poor enough as it is.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
I've always thought the best thing to do would be to eliminate the 2, extend the 67 over to 21st (and improve service to every 10 minutes from 21st to Raymond), swap the ends of the 4 and 22, creating 2 crosstown lines (N-S Lyndale, Johnson-Cedar), and have the 6 serve SE and the U of M better. Wish...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Well it goes against what is commonly seen in other cities, where people will walk further to use the train rather than the bus. Especially considering that it would be a fast, reliable, high-frequency service. Also, there are a lot of workers in the SW Corridor area that live in South Minneapolis, ...
