Re: Northstar

The decreased fares start tomorrow. I doubt there's going to be much improvement, although I do hope I'm wrong. The schedule is too limited for people to rely on Northstar for regular commuting, imo.

Re: Vikings Stadium

And where do you live, Dinkytown? I'm pretty sure there are, relatively speaking, a higher proportion of cocktail bar type places in downtown Minneapolis and higher proportion of cheap-pitchers-of-Natty places in the northern burbs.

Re: Vikings Stadium

Every year, more people die from drunk driving than murders. There were 126 impaired driving deaths in 2010 in Minnesota. Source. There were 96 murders. Source. But this is starting to get OT . . .

TAILGATING! PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS! DRINKING AND DRIVING! There's a small part of me that wonders if it would have been better to let the culture of the NFL fester in burbs where drinking and driving is socially acceptable than to further fuel their weekend infiltration of the city. Re: What will it take to develop DTE?

Some tall office buildings could go on the surface lots just southeast of the government center. Probably one of the easiest places to get the next major addition to the skyline given you're working with empty lots and it will be a continuation of the CBD. These projects could also be used to, or sp...

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)

I don't think they'll wait as long as the Nicollet/lake project is going to take.... Then where in/near uptown do they go? It will need to fit within the liquor store restrictions as two buck chuck is kinda important :D I think there might be a better shot of them opening a place downtown at this p...

I know the owner of Hennepin Lake liquor and i'm 99% sure he's not looking for a buyout anytime in the near future
Yeah I've heard in other contexts he's pretty content with the status quo. Was more just fantasizing at what might be ideal.

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)

Would Trader Joes even be interested in something that lacks two buck chuck? My guess is probably not. I wonder if they've thought about opening up a store downtown where they wouldn't have to worry about the liquor license restrictions. The eastern part of downtown would be a great spot to open up ...

Re: Vikings Stadium

i.e. if a hotel is going in, there could be a e.g. Trader Joes in the main level of it, which would serve the residential areas by the river too. Some other retail and a bar/restaurant or two will need to go in, and above that definitely mid rise residential between 3rd and 4th Sts. [. . .] The bea...

Lowrise hotel next to greenway, Highrise office/residential next to the theater component mid block. Well I don't think that's what they are proposing though. I believe it was (proposed as) a 100,000 SF, 10-floor office building, with the same massing and height as Mosaic 1. But yes, I WISH they wo...

Re: Southwest LRT

What are the odds that $41 million out of $47 million of any statewide funding source will go to the metro area?
I'm going to put that at slim to none. A large portion of this legislature would be happy to kill as many LRT projects as possible.

Re: Downtown Crime

Getting rid of the mandated bar closing time would solve most of the mess, IMO. The main problem is the exodus of everyone out of the bars all at the same time creating a near mob like rush. Letting the crowds disperse more gradually through the night would help a lot
