Re: Sears Redevelopment
This parcel would uniquely benefit from either a freeway cap or better yet the Twin Cities Boulevard type situation. A very high density development here with attractions and amenities to tie in the underutilized Capitol complex would be ideal.

There's also a TON of lumber staged on site. I was wondering if that got delivered the day the CC exempted new construction from the rent control...

Re: Loring Park Neighborhood
When LPM first went in I think a lot of us thought this parcel would likely see redevelopment as well. Even a 5 over 1 with Lotus on ground floor would be a major improvement.

The meeting was 90% SARPA Summit Homeowners saying NO WAY but also seemingly didn't have any idea what was being considered for the corridor.

I don't think people realize what a mistake that suburban-style CVS was at that corner. Something nice and shiny would go a long ways to improving the aesthetics and feel of this whole commercial district. And yes, please don't tear down On's!

Re: Interstate 94
Does this site have a poll function? I'm genuinely curious to compare the takes of this (self-selected) group on what they'd like to see for the intra-city I-94 corridor, and compare with the voters' zip code (i.e., proximity to I-94).

^ Agreed. The problem is that Hamline, Dale, and some others are equally as bad. I would love to know if boulevards or 4-3 conversions on all 3 of Cretin, Hamline, and Dale would have a meaningful impact on traffic patterns. There's been a ton less car congestion at peak times since COVID hit.

Re: Interstate 94
My reading of this concept is more to anchor this in people's minds what is theoretically possible and just to draw attention to this rethinking I-94 project in general. Later on I would expect a compromise that still includes a freeway/highway, but a far more multi-modal and less car-dominated corr...

Twin Cities Boulevard https://www.twincitiesboulevard.org/ through Our Streets Minneapolis has gone live. I was hoping for more renderings/visualizations, but it's interesting food for thought vis a vis the Rethinking I-94 project.

Re: Seven Points Uptown (Calhoun Square)
I drove through Uptown yesterday for the first time in a while, and 1. wow lots of cranes and construction, and 2. lots of people out (for a cold day) and few visible storefront vacancies. It's crazy how the media/social media have twisted the narrative on Uptown. It looked very appealing. The devel...

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics
Their focus group seemed pretty sharp based on the comments. I'm glad there's a plan so it won't just be piece meal if/when anything gets built. The city could really benefit from this.

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
There is and was a public process on this reconstruction and design. Some residents and business owners, presumably after not following the process and hearings, are now falsely claiming they weren't given a chance to be "heard." That is the part that bothers me the most.

Yes, lovely ideas. Boom Island park itself is criminally underrated but it could be even better with some tweaks.

Honestly, the St. Paul alley analogy is intriguing. Basically, each block could just pay someone to clear the entire block, perhaps the same company that clears the alleys. Of course, the city could do it too...
