Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Getting Rid of the 394 ramps into downtown would be a nightmare for the ABC ramps. I assume you mean the 3rd/4th Street viaducts, not the 394 ramps, because I'm definitely not suggesting we do the latter. That said, C Ramp I can see (no pun intended) being affected, but I can't imagine too many com...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
P.S. Since I wrote ^ that, I revised the idea a bit to fix the streets and rail at the west/north end. Angling 4th past 10th allowed me to connect Napco with 3rd and clean up the rail switches and curves. The Dropbox link is the same as above.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Lots more words below. FWIW, I'm not arguing, just trying to address your thoughtful concerns. I guess I was considering connectivity for Dan Patch and other "Commuter" rail options for the Minneapolis hub and leaving longer inter-city rail to SPUD. I also completely missed your planned co...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Excellent questions, all around. I tried to account for all your concerns ahead of time, but didn't explain any of the grade details in my original post. Is this new station at the elevation of the existing viaducts? That would mean moving trains from a trench moving up to elevated platforms and tha...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
The primary advantage of this is eliminating the need to back out of a station and allowing for through-running west/north <--> east/south. While I didn't show it explicitly, I'd like to think plenty of development could be done above any sort of station which replaces the viaducts. But you're absol...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Here's my previous North Loop redo updated to take into account a rail station in the ROW of the removed viaducts. Unfortunately, it starts from the same base map as the previous version, which I did in 2013. I added Dock Street Flats, T3, and the new Hines North Loop Green proposal, but development...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Start with this: Here's an idea I came up with maybe a decade ago. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IHFzzeD0FDr4J5gNsCjf6zW1Bi0&usp=sharing Tear down the viaducts and run the tracks down that corridor instead of between 5th and 7th. There should be enough room for one or two long platforms. The...

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)
Furthermore, we'd want any _really_ intense transit hub-ness to be underground. Let's work on on the densification that makes a transit hub necessary rather than setting aside phenomenally valuable land for it maybe someday sorta happening.

Wow is right. That would be amazing.
Time for me to readdress my no-viaduct fantasy mapOpportunity to force the issue of getting rid of the viaduct? I want to see Google Earth with this and the Gateway project.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
I struggled a lot with the WB one-way because I don't want to give in to the idea that the Parkway is a commuter route and auto traffic should be prioritized. At the same time, I think split one-ways give the creek and the trails the prominence they deserve. So I started with that as a baseline and ...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
So going back to the Minnehaha Parkway discussion... As I mentioned a ways upthread, I live quite close to the intersection of Portland and the Parkway. We walk and bike the trails both directions from Portland all the time. Our children are almost-5 and just-past-2, so we're vividly aware of keepin...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Get rid of the viaducts altogether and have the freeway ramps connect to Plymouth Ave where it crosses 94. Something like this concept from six years ago: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9lysoy59pvsrjdv/nl-redone-rev1.jpg?dl=0 FWIW, I keep meaning to come back to it and make some improvements. Mainly, I’d...
