Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)
Save the mural on the back of the building!!!! It's a battleship cruising down Nicollet while a man in a suit closes a door to the street. It should be relatively easy to save (build a frame around the cinderblock walls, cut to size and move) and place in the greenway. Important part of our history ...

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)
Minneapolis is also in a good position with complete ownership of the entire property. Eddie knows his real estate holdings are worth more than the stores themselves (see Rice Street Sears) and this allows the city to ultimately control the destiny of the property instead of Seritage, no matter how ...

Re: Southside - General Topics
The drive through is awful. People are always driving on the sidewalk and darting in and out of Nicollet. That bus stop is essentially on a curb cut for the restaurant. You can smell the cars more than the hamburgers. Since BK closed it's basically become an overflow lot for the Y next door. Wonder ...

Re: Zoning in Minneapolis
“I don’t know if there’s a suburb out there with a vacancy rate of less than 3%,” said Brian Roers, co-founder and owner of Roers Cos., a real estate developer. “The suburbs are definitely growth markets.” My read is the developers are following the low-hanging fruit. Many of the easiest/most-develo...

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan
This article in SWJ elucidates what steps are next in implementing the plan. City undertaking a zoning review beginning next year. I'm also quoted saying “The 2040 plan really isn’t that radical in some ways.” (specifically in regard to downzoning neighborhood interiors) https://www.southwestjournal...

Interior of old Dulono's space is being gutted but there's still a for lease sign on the building. Anyone heard anything?
Also the kitchen fixtures from the Nicollet Burger King are being removed today. This is the first sign of activity since it closed a few years ago.

Sports go in and out of fashion (see: golf). Volleyball is pretty popular now. Pickleball is a low impact racquet sport, essentially tennis with whiffle balls. It's been around and growing in popularity as longtime racquet sports players age.

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave
This one is turning out much better than the renderings. The taller banding gives it a more stately feel, especially compared to the busier surrounding residential facades. I think it will look really nice at dusk with all the lights on. There are still vertical mullions to be added on a few sides. ...

It sounds like there may be a riverfront development planned for the Broadway Pizza site (Broadway Ave and W. River Road) - and apparently the restaurant is willing to give away the caboose on the corner if you're interested... Any inkling what kind? There is so much bad light industrial (aka stora...

Mac's is moving onto 310 E Hennepin! Wonder what's happening with the Union building. There were rumors of redevelopment last year. Same with the Aveda site. Union Bank is expanding into the Mac's space. Don't know if it will be customer-facing or just offices. I read about it in the Minneapolis La...

There was a twitter exchange a few months ago where the city revealed they are pursuing removal with MNDOT. The state has most/all the power on this decision, right? https://twitter.com/worthington6121/sta ... 2946419712

The SW facing multi story indoor winter garden is gonna be super sweet. Glad to see larger units proposed but yep, those 3-bed layouts just hurt to look at.

I'm gonna start at Target Plaza lights and work my way downtown toward the river on Saturday. Hoping to catch tours at the Fed and Post Office. Maybe Mayo Clinic Square on Sunday.

Tenant pays electricity on all of them, with most of the units' HVAC consisting of electric baseboard and/or wall units. "Free heat" in the two downstairs duplexes I found.

Re: Southside - General Topics
Out of curiosity, I researched and reported the seven 2-bed 1-bath units available in my neighborhood. One bedroom rents are all over, including above and below this range, but all 2-beds (including condo mortgages) were within $1200-$1600. $1550 or $1575 for renovated units in 2.5 story midcentury ...
