Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)

Penfield Lunds expected to open next spring. 100 free parking spaces -- I wonder if they actually mean validated parking, as otherwise enforcing that the spaces be used for customers may be difficult.

Re: St. Paul Restaurant News

Letter of Intent on the Housing and Redevelopment page states that the retail space in the Lofts at Farmer's Market may be leased by Tim Niver and JD Frotzke (of The Strip Club).

Re: Selby and Snelling

BWW, neighbors, and the City want the Ashland access to the lot closed, MNDoT wants it to stay open, and it now sounds like a compromise has been reached and it will be shifted west for some arcane reason only MNDoT engineers will be able to understand). There's currently a house directly across th...

Re: Empire Builder

Track work to bring the Empire Builder to Union Depot should begin "this spring or summer"; service could begin "as early as October".

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Oh, and the easier it is to get into the core from various parts of the metro, the easier it is to justify an employer locating downtown rather than in some suburb -- especially if it's a relocation from an area the line serves. LRT is a more efficient way of going about that than expanding freeways...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

The fact that ridership on a suburban LRT line would be very good rewards people who CHOSE to live in far-flung areas (from their jobs and hobbies) while not rewarding and improving higher productive spaces. It may be disingenuous to say 'who cares' about the suburbs. But honestly, very few of them...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing

Some funny quotes in that article. "We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem —we can’t keep going back to the taxpayers for more money." ...when tolls would reduce the amount of money taxpayers would have to contribute to a project that actually does represent "prob...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing

Google maps shows it as being a 24-minute drive from one end of the current bridge to the other, without actually using the bridge (i.e. use the I-94 crossing). There would have to be pretty heavy traffic for the new bridge to cut a whole hour off of any drive, even if you compare it to no bridge at...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

Even more fun than branches are schedule differences that aren't notated at all. Try figuring out whether a particular eastbound 21 is going to go all the way to Union Depot, or turn around after the Minnesota St stop, especially on Saturday evenings.

Hmm, Davern looks steep too, maybe even a bit steeper, albeit for a shorter stretch and without curves.

Re: Saint Paul streetcar study

Which ones could reasonably intersect but don't? Note that the Marshall, Ford Pkwy, and W 7th lines have a little arrow at the end, suggesting an extension outside city limits to the Blue Line. I do hope that they will overlap the lines in some places, such as having the Ford Spur line continue alon...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Again I will stress the importance of keeping those good-paying blue collar jobs close to the core and accessible to disadvantaged populations (sorry, getting a little David Greene-y here). If only there were some sort of train that people could take to these jobs... Many of the employees would nee...

Viewing the forums (not the main page, but viewforum.php) in Firefox with a minimum font size of 16 or larger now results in everything being shifted way off to the right. This didn't happen before yesterday or today.

Re: Snelling and University

Is there any indication of what sort of building they're planning? The article doesn't say much other than who it was sold to. I don't think a standard one-story Walgreens would be compliant with the current T4 zoning, which among other things requires a minimum height of 25 feet, and does not allow...

Re: Culver's (1491 University Avenue)

based on what i have seen, i don't think there will be a drive-thru provided, which seems obvious for a site adjacent to lrt. From the article mulad quoted: "The move meant the building fell under older density standards, allowing them the space needed to add 50 parking spaces and a drive-thro...

I voted for rapid, as it is the standard term for this sort of service. MAX means light rail the only place I've heard it used (Portland).
