Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
I'm a bit out of the loop on this project... is a White Bear Lake terminus completely out of the cards now? If so, that's disappointing. It would have been cool to get one of the further-flung streetcar suburbs reconnected to the transit network :( They will get local bus service from Maplewood Mal...

Re: 38th and Chicago / George Floyd Square
Route 23 will return to 38th Street between Portland Ave and Bloomington Avenue starting March 16, 2023. https://www.metrotransit.org/quarterly-service-changes-begin-saturday-march-16 I don't see any plans about the D Line or Route 5. It's because 40 foot buses can fit through the intersection curr...

Re: Discontinued Bus Routes
While checking out the light rail construction in the Opus area I drove by a sign that I'm guessing was used by bus drivers for navigating (wouldn't be surprised considering how much of a confusing mess the road system is in that area). There wasn't a good and safe spot for me to take a picture so ...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
Agreed on the shorter track segments! I really think that the Midtown Greenway is the next logical step for a light rail extension after the SWLRT and Bottineau extensions. They shouldn't have nearly as difficult of a time with securing ROW and the county has left space in the trench for a light ra...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
Has anyone here ever actually tried taking Route 54 on Glumack Rd to or from Terminal 1 during Uber/Lyft drop off peak hours? If you had, you would understand the problem with buses on this corridor. I would agree with this, taking the bus in and out of the airport is a nightmare due to all of the ...

I think it’s going to happen, but I think we are going to get the worst version of a rail project.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
Random question, why are we planning to have 4 OMFs when we get to 2 actual lines/services? Because the Franklin Ave and Lowertown OMFs are not expandable? Feels like an inefficient end result. Franklin expanded for SWLRT, and it sounds like Lowertown might get some expansion as well. SWLRT does no...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
Oops, I didn't see the base price at first. Well that is good to see.
About ridership, the new model is very conservative I've been told. Also, all of our rail projects have smashed projections in the past I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened here.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics
I just looked it is. That is dumb, there is literally a high rise apartment building across the street. But I guess a modest redevelopment proposal could still work.Is that building within the coverage of the Harmon historic district that puts a limit on heights?

I would really like to see some housing proposed for this area, the rest of the North Loop is running out surface parking lots to redevelop. Along with would love to see more along 5th St between 6th Ave and 10th Ave.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
If they do add the ability to use a normal credit/debit, is there any reason to keep the original go-to card around? Wouldn't it be annoying to have lots of small transactions on a credit card statement, or *particularly* a checking account statement? It's so much nicer to have fewer, larger transa...

Adam Platt writes in the Strib about the 2040 plan hinging on a transit system the city has zero control over. https://www.startribune.com/the-2040-equation-density-minus-transit-equals-failure/600337693/ 30-minute times come in for big criticism as affecting reduced transit use. Crappy transit wil...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
So, why would a card have to be contactless to have it work on a bus? Swiping it worked just fine everywhere else, including vending machines of the era. I'm truly not aware of any transit system that implemented swipe to pay via credit card board moving vehicles. I don't think Cubic or any other m...
