Re: Vikings Stadium
Does anyone know when the renderings for the stadium design are going to be unveiled? I think someone on this thread mentioned the month of March. I'm getting impatient! Me too. though I expect when they are released people will freak out and call it ugly. Like they did with the excel energy center...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Second, if the zoning was changed ten years ago and absoultely nothing has been developed since then, that doesn't support the notion that zoning was holding back development. Well how about teh economic climate we've been in since around that change? Remember it takes time for development to happe...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Whoa yarr slow down a bit man I'm not arguing with you. You said "bars (LOTS of them), " I was just saying taht I don't think we can support a very dense area with lots of bars when we already have that going on downtown on 1st/Hennepin not to mention Nicollet mall and washington ave just ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Actually, the comment about the windows makes me nervous for a different reason - it sounds like she's describing the Metrodome's problem as being because it doesn't have windows on the street. Obviously that's absurd, and that's not really what she means, but the implication behind it seems to be ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
What's up with the Minnesotan superiority complex? This a rhetorical question and just something I've noticed living here for the last 9 years. We should be proud of this state, but Wisconsin is our mirror image in most ways. Now let's get back to the Viking's stadium. No we really have nothing in ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
I hope that it does not resemble Miller Park either. That place is a dump. The parking lots surrounding Miller Park suck but the building itself is great! That building is a joke and full of fail all over the place. I mean jsut the ridiculous shadows on the field are enough to drive you nuts watchi...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Here's a hint that it will benefit the city... once it looked like the team was either going to leave or go to Arden Hills, it was tooth and nail to keep them in the city? Why? Because the city wanted the headache? Please. Stadiums do not make money on the gate. they make money in a lot of other way...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Someone gave me this idea (or maybe I stole it): why not have a roof and NOT heat or cool the inside? In other words, let the sun warm it up naturally or sit inside a cool stadium with no water or wind elements. Is that just stupid? It seemingly would solve the condensation issue... Architects and ...

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago
There are routes between cities where air travel makes sense. Connecting our medium-sized city to a metro of under a million across hundreds of miles of sparsely populated prairie is about a good of an example as I can think of where crossing an ocean isn't involved. But of course that new rail lin...

Re: Vikings Stadium
I'd love for a sheet of ice to slide off a 30 story building and be under it. Ice can and does form on sloped roofs because of moisture in the air and builds until it can no longer cling to what it is attached to. Hope there are no sidewalks below. Flat roofs can be green roofs and can collect water...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Actually there is a LOT that is different between the two. But it's hard to see it in those types of drawings unless you are a real geek about that sort of stuff. The biggest change is in left field, which has the Budweiser tower thing and another upper deck of seats. Neat pictures though. ok fine.....

Re: Green Line (Central)
The building behind overflow cafe (where the childcare place was) was torn down because there was some misunderstanding about parking. The occupants (overflow, Anytime Fitness, etc) thought there was going to be parking provided, but it never happened. So they tore the buildings down. Moved the chil...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Pedgating? Cyclegating? LRTgating?
Clearly an emphasis — or at least many of us hope — is that the tailgating setup at the new stadium is less car centric than what we currently have. In that case, a larger version of Rice Park would definitely be viable.

Re: Central Corridor LRT
I used to live very near the MW building. It was a dump and falling apart in the end. Even while it was in use I don't believe much of the big tower portion of the building was safe.

Re: Vikings Stadium
If we didn't have empty storefronts and spaces that haven't been filled in the core for a long time there might be a point but it isn't like downtown is busting it's seams just waiting to expand into DTE. Also having things that bring people to downtown is a good thing because apparently retail isn'...

Re: Vikings Stadium
So to recap a block and some possible other space but we don't know for sure. Oh my.... the sea of tailgating! It's basically one block. on the edge of downtown on land that is basically worthless otherwise. Find a way to dual use that space on non-gamedays and call it good. A reminder of the curren...

Nailed what??? I don't see ANY large swaths of tailgating spaces. There's a space for it sure... But large swath? Not really.

Re: Central Corridor LRT
It could be they are not filling them in until all the electrical work and systems stuff is ironed out, IF there is access to wires in those areas. Not sure if there is or not but it would make sense that there would be so in the future if they ever had to open something up they wouldn't have to bre...
