Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

This corridor just keeps growing. I have family who live along the 94 / Northstar line and they say that their commute gets worse each month. The population in this area is only going to continue to grow. I hope they can find a way to fix/resolve the issues.

Re: Vision Loss Resources Redevelopment - Lyndale & Franklin

I just drove by a couple days ago and looked for any dev signs. It is totally normal operation. I wondered if things might begin to look empty and I think that it still looks active.

Re: Nicollet Ave / Eat Street - Whittier, Stevens, Loring Park

Funny, what's currently there was part of a similar 'coordinated plan' of the 1970s.
I’ve seen that plan! I was reading your post and flashed back to a deck I found when I worked for the Downtown Council. The area was almost a “new town, in town” design.

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington

With all the financial drama they have had over the New Jersey mall and misfires in Miami… the threats for the lenders to take control of the MOA… I think they are likely to lay low and focus on getting mall sales back up and the economy moving again before they take on new debt.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

The new RBC curves along the Nicollet side and around to the Wash Ave / Henn intersection just in case it gets built. It was one of the dev rules that the tower had to accommodate the potential route.

Re: The Dayton's Project

I worked in a tower downtown Minneapolis in 2001… I remember after September 11 everyone said that New York was “over” and that the corporations would move out of town. People really felt that way. And I worked with CEOs in New York, heads of major companies and they were not sure if the city would ...

“…kinda like how UBS Plaza in St. Paul has two towers with a weird diagonal gap in the middle that was intended to serve as a PRT station.”
I kind of remember that now! I was obsessed with Town Square when it was planned and built.

So wait... is this development off? Is this a new dev who is just buying the lot? Or did they purchase the lot and the proposed dev that has moved thru so many city approvals?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Downtown has been like this since I started actively going there in 2013. Gap closed and was an empty space for 2 years. City Center had a crappy Office Max in its space, which is now another poorly designed store, and Sports Authority lasted less than a year. Barnes and Noble was good, then it was...

I wonder if this breaks ground this spring? Hines is clearly getting more invested in this city with the recent purchase of the 9th and Marquette site.

“PS, I think there are some people on here that know who Judith Martin was?“ I knew her well! I really do miss her! I had worked for RT while I was in one of her grad classes and she gave me such a hard time. She ruled with her tongue! Such a sharp wit.

Re: Eleven - 1111 West River Parkway - 41 stories / 550'

I wonder why they needed to add 30'? I didn't think that with all the design plans and approvals that were required that a building could just end up being substantially taller than plans... But this did happen with the US Bank tower when it was built. That crown is much higher than original plans b...

Re: Former West Publishing / County Jail development site

We just moved back downtown and this project is horrifying. Not only does it block the river view, it also doesn't add affordable housing (important for disabled people who need to live close to accessible amenities!). Good thing Gov. Walz turned down the $40M bonding request. https://www.twincitie...

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)

I worked as an agency guy on Kmart 20 years ago... it was a profitable Kmart because there was not target or Walmart nearby... and they never spend a penny renovating or repairing the building... I’m glad it will be gone and the street will reopen.
