Re: South Nicollet-Lyndale-Kingfield-Tangletown-Windom

I would have thought someone would have pointed out that the business occupying the space before were pretty busy and well used by the neighborhood and we aren't getting anything to replace either. So apparently there's high demand for a Family Dollar and O'Reilly Auto Parts in the neighborhood if ...

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 35 stories - 393'/418'

In November, the parking lot that currently occupies this space will be closing so that they can break ground. No word on the construction schedule, but loose rumor indicates that they are breaking ground now to meet the construction start schedule and avoid going back for new city approvals.

Re: Greater Minnesota job market / employment news

Grand Marais does have high-speed internet now, though. More mobility to work remotely could lead some to move there full-time or nearly so. I considered it, but too many attachments locally for me. That would contribute almost nothing to the low-skill workforce needs (maybe some working age kids) ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

The addition of new Lake St ramps to 35W and the end of big-time construction, I think Lyndale will be fine with two general travel lanes in each direction. The road has the same traffic volumes as Hennepin, which is getting the same treatment. There are plenty of N-S capacity on city streets in Mi...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Ooh, fun. 8,000 sq feet must be one of the street level corners - wonder if it's the old Prime 6 spot, or on Nicollet? From City Centers leasing site, looks like it will be on 6th Street next to the tower entrance. Sounds like the sports bar is a separate tenant (which is great news for City Center...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

I have a friend who lives near 35W and 38th who was disappointing he wasn't going to have a station nearby. I wonder if a station at 38th would pass today. I live about equidistant from the Lake Street stop and a hypothetical 38th street stop. Personally, I would have used the 38th Street stop almo...

Re: Seven Points Uptown (Calhoun Square)

That rendering with a new building replacing the southern half of Seven Points (terrible name) is interesting. That is a much better use of the southern half of the block, but I would definitely miss Kitchen Window if they didn't just relocate to a different spot in the building. They are pretty muc...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)

In general, I think that Option 1 looks great. My one concern is that the continuous median (mostly good) blocks turns not only into driveways, but also some streets. This is necessary to keep left turners from blocking all traffic and I understand that. The concern is that weird angles and one ways...

Re: Seven Points Uptown (Calhoun Square)

I live near the Lake/Nicollet WF, but it isn't my bank. I am happy they are rebuilding it because bank branches do serve local residents by design. I am just sad that the rioters didn't manage to damage the giant drive-through structure. They cleared the site of the burned building, but left the fiv...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022

Its the other way around in my opinion. How many people voted for Walz in 2018 but ended up voting for trump in 2020. Walz won by over 11% in 2018 vs biden who won it by 7%. Still a large margin but one that is not nearly as strong and was very much powered by the metro area. If even some of the su...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

In Riverview's case I assume all the platforms will be level-boarding, and I hope they're long enough to allow at least 2-car trains. It would be optimal if the stations were built to allow platform extensions for 3-car trains at a later date, but as long as 2-car trains are feasible I'll be okay w...

Fairview to close Hiawatha Clinic

It will be interesting to see what happens to this ugly building.
I don't get over to that neighborhood often, but I remember going to the restaurant across the street and thinking "God, what an ugly building".

Re: Maintaining old houses

I replaced the 115 year old windows in my home with inserts about 6 years ago. No more storms. Most of the windows didn't have storms when I bough the house, so new windows without storms was a HUGE upgrade over old windows with a mix of storms or winter plastic. I have never missed the old storms. ...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

The councils plan is a vision with zero details. Going to be a no vote from me as I don’t vote for a nice vision of the future at the city level I vote for results and details. We need real change in the MSPD not what they just passed. Also yes I call the cops if something happens. Not sure why any...

All the people on social media spouting off about how they hate the police- If a home invader is kicking down their door, I wonder who they're going to call? Pizza Hut delivery? Well if you call the cops, they probably won't stop the burglary. They've certainly never been helpful whenever I've been...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Kind of curiously, the Longfellow Market never boarded up its giant plate glass windows yet didn't appear to have any damage. The scale and mix of uses is just fine for this site, but it's overparked as per usual in St. Paul. If I had more confidence that this proposed parking would be shared and used to support less parking at other locations on the superblock, I'd feel better about it. I assume that almost every develop...
