Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
It might be possible to prevent this from passing in the Senate. Assuming Democrats are united, I would think the one Republican to target on this would be Paul Anderson in the 44th district. He won by just under 200 votes and the southern portion of his district is reasonably close to a few of the ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
I think we'll have a good idea how the feds will respond once the California Caltrain electrification project is decided http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2017/02/16/will_elaine_chao_axe_federal_funding_for_caltrain.html A similar tactic was used, just by California's US House delegation rather t...

Re: Presidential Election 2016
What is actually bad about nominating Chris Coleman though? I definitely have a lukewarm reaction to him, but he seems better than 80% of the candidates that have been floated.

Re: MN State Senate and House Elections 2016
Why would the inner urban metro turn out in strong numbers for an outstate DFLer?

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Ok, so the two possible solutions to that would likely be 1) build subsidized transportation in some form out to those exurban jobs at some not-insignificant cost so they can enjoy the benefits of lower rent and a job to pay for it, hopefully without subsidy, 2) retain and grow jobs that match thes...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
I think Republican's have overplayed how much Southwest LRT antics resonate in greater MN. My general feeling is that greater MN in particular doesn't really care about Southwest either way; it's a Metro issue.

Sounds like it's happening. https://www.minnpost.com/politics-policy/2016/08/met-council-unveils-plan-cover-state-share-southwest-lrt-funding The plan unveiled Thursday would have the Met Council financing $91.75 million in certificates with the CTIB financing another $11.75 million. Those certifica...

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
Heh, Senate (Latz) amended the bonding bill from the house to include more transit funding literally minutes before the effective end of session. So no bonding, no transportation.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
All but one of the House seats that flipped to the GOP in 2014 were in outstate MN. Democrats have done about as well as they can realistically do in the Twin Cities, give or take a few seats. If Democrats are going to take the house this year, they have to make inroads in multiple rural MN swing di...

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
Flipping the house doesn't require a wave. No bonding bill might be enough to tip the house to the Democrats. I would think that a few more swing-district Republicans are wary of this.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
The bonding bill is the elephant in the room. The metro will be just fine without it, but rural MN depends on it and constituents will be expecting their Rep to deliver. There's no reason for metro DFL'ers in the Senate to re-consider a bonding bill if Republican leaders in the house aren't negotiat...

But Bakk does care about preventing a caucus mutiny, especially after last year. He knows that it's a priority for metro legislators.

Re: Downtown Parking
So it's Minneapolis residents parking in these ramps during events? Right...In other words, the city that's supposed to be working on behalf of the people is digging deeper into their pockets by helping businesses at the expense of residents?

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
It's strategic. It keeps the transportation debate confined to the comprehensive effort. I think there's a good chance a transportation bill happens, and the senators must know it. Daudt and others are very careful with their wording. They won't vote for a bill that specifically funds SWLRT. A metro...
