Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
Pre-pandemic they were very peak focused so redeploying resources to local routes likely still amounts to a service cut. Given that local ridership has recovered faster than the peak/downtown oriented ridership it wasn't a bad idea. The other opt-out agencies (Maple Grove, Plymouth, Southwest) are s...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
MVTA has massively expanded local service during the pandemic so I'm not surprised their pulling back. They've basically taken a "throw everything at the wall" approach and are probably now trying to focus on certain routes.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
Basically only those who live along Emerson/Fremont between 26th and 44th and going somewhere along Hiawatha, or to the Airport/MOA would be impacted. The transfer is maybe 2-4 minutes longer than the previously proposed location. Also a mitigating factor is the 22 bus 1/4 mile to the east and the C...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
The Osseo Rd detour has caused a need for additional buses on the C & D lines. The electric buses for the C Line have also had some reliability issues which I am unsure if still impacting fleet availability.

Re: Interstate 94
With over 100,000 cars on any given segment and thousands of semi-trucks, the boulevard option would probably be more like an NYC arterial than a parkway. I'm curious to see what the traffic modeling looks like but I'd expect lots of traffic to move to east-west streets like Lake/Marshall, Franklin,...

Re: MSP Airport
I believe Downtown St. Paul is used for a lot of executive private jets. With a lot of F500 HQs in the region there's a fair amount of traffic. IIRC, the National Guard makes good use of it too.

Re: Google Maps, Apple Maps, etc.
Google Earth imagery for the Twin Cities has been updated to late May with exception of St. Paul south of 94 stretching to Apple Valley. The current state of the SW LRT is probably the most visible project, as well as a lot of the active development sites.

Isn't the county leading a redesign project for University & SE 4th St? Hopefully it means making the interchange at 35W safer.

That's right, at some point the Washington route was modified to run along I-94, but now it looks like that is too costly.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
I listened to the Blue Line CMC meeting that was held today and a new option is being considered that uses 10th Ave to Washington to Broadway/21st. This reduces the cost of altering the I-94 slopes and allows the train to operate at street level. There are a few issues with the routing, namely: 10th...

MnDot has concluded their 35W North Gateway study: https://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/i35w-north-gateway/index.html Through an extensive technical analysis, it became apparent that several of the key metrics needed to be re-evaluated post COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of continuing with the stu...

Re: Nicollet Mall
Capacity on Marquette & 2nd won't be a problem for a long time. Metro Transit is planning to cut a lot of the suspended routes as part of the Network Now initiative. Moving Nicollet buses to Marquette & 2nd does put bus riders on the empty office streets away from pretty much all the stores ...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
Specific to Burnsville is that the line is currently abandoned and more or less only runs through the lowest-density residential section of the city. Burnsville already has the transit station at 13 & Nicollet and the Orange Line which are underutilized due to WFH, so public transit connections ...

Looks like Google Earth has imagery of Minneapolis, Richfield, Bloomington, Burnsville, and Lakeville from 4/24/2023 now. It is a box roughly outlined by (W) Xenwood Ave, (N) 62nd Ave N/54th Ave NE, (E) Cleveland Ave, (S) 320th St.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
MnDot is also pushing forward with the W 7th St access changes and repaving, and said that Riverview would have to rebuild everything if they go through with the streetcar. I would also imagine that the complexity of reconfiguring the 5/62 interchange is a huge obstacle. The better bus alternative w...
