Re: Saint Paul - General Topics

The Liffey has broken ground -- I never heard any update(s) but it had previously run into some zoning/setback issues. Very happy this is moving along again! Located at Snelling & Carroll.

Re: 307 Oak Grove Apartment Proposal

I loved living in the Loring Park area. Felt like you liked in a city. Each of these surface lots that gets swallowed up with keep that momentum moving. I just hope they were able to get/keep some of the Nicollet tenants after that redevelopment nearby. Always felt like the area needed a couple more...

Re: Rochester

Seems the idea of a "company town" is nearly dead, making this Mayo-driven city rather special in the 21st century. I foresee this town continuing its small-town mentality with big city reality and insane car-dependency for decades at the very least. Nice city if you set your expectations ...

Re: CHS Field (St. Paul Saints Ballpark)

The article says the 10k+ seat minimum would be waived, but I wonder if CHS could easily add another bleacher section or two? Probably outfield would be easiest. I love the compact feel of it as it is, though.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

I attended. They are still keeping the bus option on the backburner! Someone did voice support of a more LRT-like arrangement with more dedicated ROW. Sounds very early yet in the process.

Also should kill that awful billboard currently on the St. Olaf surface lot.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

Once you get past Snelling, Selby west of AMR is actually quite bikeable, the potholed pavement notwithstanding. As usual, the Snelby mess will remain the limiting factor.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

The original Mayor's proposal would have required a full reconstruction of at least the intersections to permit a 1x1 with turn lane layout. In order to save costs (some of which weren't factored into the original 3.5MM earmarked for the project), it was decided to leave the current median as-is, an...

Re: Ayd Mill Road

Saint Paul City Council voted 4-3 today to go ahead with the modified 4-3 roadway conversion with the addition of a bike/ped path where the easternmost lane currently lies. Not a perfect solution, but this should help move the corridor in the direction of a more pleasant and sustainable piece of CIT...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Anyone have thoughts on the 36/Manning proposed grade-separated intersection? A lot of collisions at this light (and Lake Elmo is even worse) so grade separation seems appropriate. The design could be better though. Wish we could just be done with porkchop slip lanes. https://www.twincities.com/2020...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

I've completely stopped using those bikeways/trails on the parkway. It's much safer to take the lane, particularly with the hilly topography. This parkway needs some serious love!

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

I support this primarily because it would necessitate getting the diesel buses off the mall in doing so. I also think out-of-towners would ride it, and it might boost tourism. The fiscally-responsible alternative? BEV Buses.

Re: Vision Loss Resources Redevelopment - Lyndale & Franklin

Towers are nice, wish we had more, but you can't really argue with developers starting with low-cost, easy to flip projects like this one. Just too many poor land uses around to really expect towers to be shooting up all over.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

Removing it would normalize the flow through the actual grid, however. Close AMR plus add one or two more new bridges over the shortline railway to access 94 (e.g., Pascal if possible) and you'd have a better, more stable grid system.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

As a daily ped at Snelling/Selby and Selby/Saratoga -- vehicular traffic is highly volatile and drivers are rarely scanning for peds here. They have many conflict points and are usually transitioning from freeway to city street mentality (if it happens at all). Very dangerous. Also lighting is piss-...

Now, can they revisit the Alia condo plans? Obviously too late but it makes you wonder. Hopefully once these are absorbed, a new 40+ tower will be proposed somewhere downtown.

Re: Minneapolis Vehicle Equipment Violations

Taillights being out is totally a proxy for profiling drivers. That said, I'm more concerned about the high propensity for drivers to neglect turning their lights on in precipitation or dark these days. Imperfect solution but hopefully this cuts down on "driving while [skin color]" violati...

Re: Rochester

I lived in Rochester for more than a year and rarely used my car. The city keeps subsidizing sprawl and then complains that more vehicles are coming into downtown. Plenty of places to live within walking or biking distance of good jobs (that's what I did).
