Re: East 38th Street Corridor & Standish-Ericsson

The event had Minneapolis' new bike and pedestrian coordinator Matt Drydahl and the Hennepin Co. counterpart Kelley Yemen, with some mapping exercises. The city is currently updating it's bike master plan. A lot of people expressed the desire for better bike facilities along E. 38th Street and at Hi...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Anyone familiar with the website wikitravel? Out of curiosity I looked up Minneapolis and noticed the "Stay Safe" section is pretty... ridiculous...? Its worth noting the same section for Lagos, Nigeria is like 3 paragraphs less. Do not get off the Blue Line at Lake Street/Midtown station...

Re: Southside - General Topics

Social Dance Studio (3742 23rd Ave S) at E. 38th and 23rd Ave S is closing. Apparently the building's owner is increasing the rent. Also the building across the street (2249 E. 38th) which I believe is owned by one of the tenants is looking to sell/lease it. Throw in the Marathon gas station propert...

Re: Favorite Buildings

Modern = Wells Fargo - modern but also incorporates previous style without being derivative
Historic = Foshay - unique and I think it's current use as a trendy hotel with top floor bar is awesome
Odd Ball = Minneapolis Armory - so much potential. Right now it's a f***** parking lot

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals

The long term effects of not securing additional revenue is that the legislature will continue to use bond money for specific projects (written into the legislation) which 9/10 are unnecessary expansion projects like two-four lane conversions and the St Croix bridge. Not only are we expanding the sy...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Good CAC meeting last night. A representative from the disability community came to have a discussion about station design. This gave me an opening to harp on the West Lake station again. Why are we requiring people to walk up a steeply-inclined bridge only to take an elevator down to the platform?...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis

Please don't tell me this entire area is going to be developed by one group...
Uh oh, this is looking more and more like "urban renewal" And I don't mean that in a good way.

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals

That implies a link between new money and maintenance of existing infrastructure (bridges). That's empirically denied. Instead, we use new money to build new infrastructure, rather than using it to maintain existing infrastructure. It's a shell game. What are you defining as new infrastructure? Exp...

Re: Major League Soccer in Minneapolis

So where exactly would a stadium near the farmers market go? The Sporting KC stadium footprint is about 500 x 500 ft. So even if they used the entire farmers market site some of the industrial uses would need to go to. Furthermore, would the farmers market be moved somewhere else? One of the many do...

If "United" is out, I propose a naming competition. Go!

Minnesota Loons
MSP Ballers
Minnesota Outstaters (with a stadium in Willmar)
Twin City Tacklers

Re: Major League Soccer in Minneapolis

Insisting on Minneapolis in the name over Minnesota should guarantee support from out state legislators crucial to any public funding. Nothing those people love more than Europhile city snobs. Out state legislators also really like soccer's other big fan base - African and Latin American immigrants...

Re: Major League Soccer in Minneapolis

So I changed the thread title to "Minneapolis", in hopes that you hardcore soccer fans out there will be lobbying the team's ownership group to change the name to "Minneapolis". For christsakes can we get a single team in this city named after the actual city already! Personally...

Re: Major League Soccer in Minnesota

...Urban stadiums are desirable to the extent that they improve the urban experience and add to the breadth of uses and level of activity...A soccer pitch at this location seems a nice addition, one that won't deactivate a critical part of the fabric while probably increasing urban activities and o...

Re: Rock the Garden

The Current is playing to their demographic (30-45 yo, Gen X-ers, young parents, Subaru drivers) which unfortunately I don't identify with. Which is funny because the crowd seemed to be more 20-somethings at the three RTGs I've been to. Yeah I think while younger people are more likely to go to a c...
