Re: Rock the Garden

I think the headliner caliber is usually ok for the festival but RTG just seems to take what they can get and that creates a sporadic lineup. Maybe it's a result of being affiliated with the Current, which literally plays every type of music. Even if I really liked two bands I'm not going to drop ov...

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists

I hate the new google maps. I always switch back to the classic version as you still get the bird's eye view. I still have yet to find out why they no longer make the birds eye view to update them. That new 3-d tilt crap it looks gross... That's my confession.. I use bing maps. It doesn't lag in yo...

Re: Rock the Garden

Thanks for the tip! I'm a little weary of volunteering based on a past experience of sort recycling at a camping music festival. People throw away a lot of gross stuff when camping.

Rock the Garden, Soundset, Outdoor Music Festivals, etc.

Rumors on headliners?

I have always wanted to go in the past but the headliners haven't been enough for the ticket price.

Re: Southside - General Topics

Why? Franklin Ave Bakery is a business which needs all the help it can get, and it isn't as though there is a shortage of developable land anywhere near here. The parking lot around is nicely landscaped (a nice example of what the city would love to happen downtown) and sits directly adjacent to an...

Re: Condition of Minnesota Roads and what to do...

As for all the overpasses, remember the 1960s-1980s were not a high point in civil engineering. So 35W/494 must have been built with some quality engineer and and craftsmanship, since it doesn't make the list. The 394/12 bridges are bizarre to me. These aren't necessarily new bridges but could also...

The 30 year old trees look nice...

Side note, does anyone know if because of the drive thru, the city would require (or even demand) less parking?

Re: "The Miracle of Mpls", Local Responses & Racial Disparit

Will get back to this at the end of the day I'm sure, but the point I was trying to make was more along these lines . I actually read this before reading Chait's article and completed sided with this guy (and Chait). I'm not familiar with Chait's entire back catalog but to me he's not a jerk or a-h...

http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_25105588/twin-cities-housing-policies-contribute-segregation-report-says Orfield has been pushing this message for years and it's an important one. Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Here's my take and I think this builds off the intrigue the author has about MSP. While the the metro area is "sprawly" as a recent study found, I think the metro council and the larger cities have done a lot to offset the impacts that the sprawl has on other areas. Or at least do more tha...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

I drive, bike and walk mostly E 38th St and north. Strictly on the topic of signal timing, the fact that not all lanes at every intersection along Hiawatha are actuated is the most annoying. I regularly see left turn lanes get signals when no cars are there as well as eastbound traffic getting a rid...

City re-examining Hiawatha traffic signal timing

I don't know where this goes... Full news release: Over the past few years, the City of Minneapolis and its partners made major investments in a new traffic signal management system and other equipment to slash wait times for vehicles along and crossing Hiawatha Avenue. Drivers who use Hiawatha know...

Re: Grocery Stores

The only reason I ever go to Trader Joe's is nuts and Raynal brandy. While I haven't checked Aldi and I don't do Costco, nuts are cheaper at Trader Joe's than anywhere else. They're even cheap enough to make up for the fact that the Jimmy Buffet aesthetic pretty much instantly makes me view suicide...

Re: Hiawatha Avenue Grain Elevators & Freight Rail Corridor

Personally I don't like how these silo repurposings look. Sort of brutalist. But at the same time I want to see more development along Hiawatha and that would be a lot of concrete to haul away.

Standish-Ericsson restaurant update: Pilgrimage is now open. This is the old Citizen Cafe space on 38th Street. Parkway Carbone's new location will be opening in less than a week.
