Re: Wikipedia

I've answered the call and spent the first hours of 2015 adding info to the Minneapolis Wikipedia page. I added info under the Cuisine section to highlight the amazing food and restaurants we have here. I also added info under the visual arts section, climate section (highlighting all the sunshine w...

Re: Hiawatha Avenue Grain Elevators & Freight Rail Corridor

I would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts/expert opinions on the utility lines. IIRC the Longfellow Station Apartments had some issue as HUD subsidized housing can't be so close to high tension lines... SE corner of 45th and Hiawatha is ripe for an apartment building. I would like to see somet...

Re: Road Crime

I dont think anything will happen to that guy, sadly. If they were going to arrest him they would have done it when he was stopped 2 blocks away talking to the cops
This is unconscionable. Especially considering the guy had prior DUIs.

Re: Minneapolis Fiber

That's called fiber-to-the-node, and it is fairly common. It doesn't hold a candle to true fiber-to-the-premises, but beats the pants off of normal DSL. Basically, its competitive speed-wise with cable, which is really all CenturyLink has to care about except in the few cities with true fiber servi...

Re: Oaks Station Place

I agree. Ignoring the sideshow on parking/parking permits, the restaurant wasn't a good idea for the spot. I think a cafe/coffee shop would be a better fit. However, I wish there were more restaurants in the area.

Re: Oaks Station Place

Locavore backed out. Their bank wouldn't give them a loan without more parking and since the streets surrounding the site are permit, that was a no-go. On a side note the city is revisiting the permit parking policy on residential streets.

Re: MSP Airport

Here's an article talking about the NextGen GPS air traffic flight controls being rolled out in Dallas . This has been controversial in MSP, and for some good reasons, but I don't think the potential benefits of this are fully understood. Yes, this would likely concentrate flight paths over certain...

If anyone would like to read a great book on US regional history and cultures, I highly recommend American Nations by Collin Woodard. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/america ... 0143122029

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Toronto isn't even that far north it's like 20 miles from Buffalo... I really like this idea and I already jokingly refer to living in "the north," also helps that it's a Game of Thrones reference. I think "midwest" is not specific enough, as pointed out by the map in the article...

Re: Apartment Hunting General Discussion

Heat included or no? I've actually considered living there. I could maybe afford the 1Z floor plan, but not really any of the other 1BRs. No heat but I think my gas bill was about $30 at the depths of winters. Pretty sure my electric, gas, water (more water heating, not done in unit) was always und...

Re: Apartment Hunting General Discussion

She actually quit that job, so for the foreseeable future it's just Cedar Riverside and the U that she needs access to. I'd been cruising padmapper and Craigslist, but it turns out few of the big complexes ended up there, so I guess I have to look at 5 or 10 different sites to see what's really ava...

I'm wondering too... that was a great restaurant.
Saw a sign in the window today, "Pilgrimage Cafe Coming Soon." http://www.pilgrimagecafe.com/ The chef also has a restaurant Mattie's On Main. All in all, I'm pretty excited for this place to open.

Anyone know what's going on with Citizen Cafe on E 38th St? First they closed for "renovations" for the month of Sept. (still closed) now according to post by someone on their FB page the business was sold and people were let go.

Re: Confusing Signs

One thing that is always confusing to me is where 35w N and 94E meet up there is this sign that says Washington Ave 2nd right. And then the sign above the second right merely says 3rd and University of MN. I miss Washington EVERY TIME!!! UGH! https://www.google.com/maps/@44.9656892,-93.2587171,3a,7...

Re: Third Wave Coffee Shops

I didn't know Shinola was also a coffee shop. Getting off topic a bit but Shinola in it's current incarnation is a result of venture capitalists creating a brand to sell watches (look at how much Fossil made last year). With that stated I think it's cool they manufacture the watches in Detroit. Back...

Re: Apartment Hunting General Discussion

I'm thinking it's time for my wife and I to get out of our apartment (though my lease isn't up until next October, I want to have an idea where to go, and I also could break it early). Currently living in Seward, and I like my proximity to the Blue Line, having a few restaurants (Tracy's and Pizza ...

The bus stop stickers look awesome.

I would love to see/do some DIY pedestrian zebra crossings at tons of locations. Probably would need to buy spray chalk in bulk.

I hope he doesn't stray too far from his bread and butter. I found Marohn so fascinating precisely because he focused on road design and transportation. You can have great, dense, diverse cities and still have overbuilt, dangerous roads. There's so much more work that needs to be done on this front ...
