Re: Crime
And just a little hint: when journalists start writing articles such as you so vehemently disparage, it's almost ALWAYS because they are seizing upon popular zeitgeist, such as, oh I don't know, the #metoo movement? In other words, where there is journalistic smoke (hype), there is often fire (a va...

Re: Crime
Hennepin has always been sketch. In my 30 years living in Minneapolis I have never known it to not be...gritty. It's less sketch now than it was in the 80's/90's. For all the anecdata saying it's really bad now I'm sure we could gather anecdata saying it's really good. The only thing that stops us ...

Re: Crime
Anecdata supporting any thesis at any time can pretty much always be gathered, which is why actual crime statistics are a valid counter to 'anecdata says Hennepin gives me bad feels'. The madness that suggests that Hennepin is worse now than when Block E was bounded by two Schinders stores and had M...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
Regarding the Hiawatha Golf Course, the slate of candidates who ran in support of preserving the course was pretty much wiped out in the last election (save for 1 person) so I expect it will be going away.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
My concern about the name Bde Maka Ska is that some people might interpret "Bde" as "bidet".

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017
The whole field is pretty undifferentiated, making this perhaps the dullest election I've seen in a while. The policy differences between the candidates are pretty insignificant as far as I can see, leaving us to decide based on who can 'get it done' better. That seems to require some knowledge of t...

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017
People are certainly taking stances and assigning blame, I just don't know that they're being fair. Politics isn't about being fair. This misses the point. Since the discussion was about who is and is not worthy of support, the fact that people are trying to hang something on Hodges that really isn...

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017
I'm more and more seeing the Nicollet Mall reconstruction being used against Betsy Hodges politically. ....Until recently I'd known there was a lot of frustration about the topic, but is this a relatively new thing that she's being directly blamed for it? And is it fair to blame her? I'm genuinely ...

Re: Mass transit construction costs in the United States far higher than what European countries pay for comparable proj
I think your thesis is already getting groupies because I'd like to see it as well. I predict that soon enough your thesis will feel like the belle of the ball in this transportation policy wonk forum. Could you at minimum provide us with source material information pertaining to this particular iss...

Mass transit construction costs in the United States far higher than what European countries pay for comparable projects
I thought this may be of interest, and is less likely to be used out of context to bash mass transit, to streets.mn forumites: "The Second Avenue Subway in New York City, for example, is being built at a cost of nearly $1.7 billion per kilometer while new subway lines are being built in Paris, ...

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment
Hello all- I'm surprised to see this thread so quiet as this is a once-in-a-generation development project. In any case, I wanted to let everyone know that there is a petition to support the dense, environmentally and transit-friendly development plan currently under consideration. https://actionnet...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
One thing's for sure our Minneapolis state reps sure as hell don't want to find out if our fuzzy math is correct regarding who comes out ahead. That should tell you a lot right there. I don't know if I buy this as being true. I would assume the State Auditor's office would be the responsible party ...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Yes, unfortunately as I've spent more time on Nextdoor I've come to the conclusion that it ought to be named "NIMBYdoor". Clearly there are valid concerns but they are not expressed as loudly or often as...the other concerns. I should reiterate that I'm in the Hiawatha neighborhood of Minn...

I unfortunately don't see an option to edit my post. I meant to write "Hiawatha (and surrounding neighborhoods)...Nextdoor site".

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I'm new to this site but am very happy to see the Riverview Corridor being discussed here. It is being discussed intensely in the Hiawatha (and surrounding neighborhoods) and let's just say the discussion is less than enlightening. The "No to Everything!" crowd is pretty up in arms and I w...
