Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development
I'm not feeling stupid now. The reasons I wanted the stadium in Arden Hills have nothing to do with development or lack of in downtown.

Re: My traffic signal collection
Made a video of my 5 hand/man pedestrian signals cycling
And my 3 countdown signals. The one on the left was a very early model before white LEDs were affordable, so the Man is fiber optic.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Nicollet and Portland would be no brainers as far as 3 lane conversion. Most of 66th and Old Shakopee are near the 20,000 limit where conversions start to impact car traffic, with 66th and Old Shakopee near I-35W well over it. I notice in the handout they used a stock photo of a traffic signal with ...

Re: General Suburb News
My sister regularly walks to Festival, and she says it isn't as fancy as Byerly's, but still is nice and she like the bakery. When they built it they originally had delusions they were building Galleria II- after inviting Super Value in they changed their mind because they weren't fancy-pants enough...

Re: General Suburb News
I like Lyndale the way it is, since it's not far to drive to get a taco or a headlight bulb bulb and I've never had a problem parking. But probably the answer is there's too much low-end retail and no demand for high-end retail- Byerly's elected to close rather than replace their freezers and Festiv...

Weren't they talking about converting the Grain Belt sign to LEDs and lighting it up again?

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I have to agree that the Vikings wouldn't have wound up in LA. A blog from that area laid it out why: http://www.footballphds.com/2012/04/18/nfl-in-la-minnesota-vikings-still-not-relocation-contender-for-los-angeles/ Besides being considered a "legacy team" as opposed to say Jacksonville, ...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
My favorite extant bridges based on aesthetics only, all of which I've been over personally: Nice list, but no Mackinac bridge? I've never been over the Mackinac Bridge so I can't judge it. I forgot about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge too, that should be on my list of favorites that I've been across. L...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
My only comment is just because Oak Park Heights won't let Mn/DOT get rid of some of the lights on an expressway doesn't mean that getting rid of others (as is happening elsewhere along the corridor) that we can get rid of isn't worthwhile. Maybe they''ll change their mind in 15 years when there's t...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
Beside having stoplights remaining on our expressway system, I recall the idea of a one-way couplet didn't go over too well because they'd have to remove parking on the main street to keep traffic moving. The Stillwater Bridge you have an expressway on the Minnesota side and freeway on the WI side, ...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
I'm not sure where a Prescott style bridge would go at Stillwater. Unless you want to have a two lane approach road, (which was I find regrettable in the case of Prescott because it has one of the the highest volumes on a two lane in the state), a major reason why a bridge at the existing location w...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
According to the Mn/DOT traffic mapping application, the AADT on the existing crossing is 17,400. That's not what I'd consider "roughly 10K". The difference is significant since 10K is where you start thinking of 4 lanes. As everyone knows, I'm thrilled about the new bridge, and I do like ...

Re: St. Croix River Crossing
Interesting because 50,000 is where you start to have capacity problems with 4 lanes. I asked one of the engineers why they weren't building more lanes, or at least a bridge with the ability to add them, and he responded that with the current AADT the need for more than 4 lanes was so far into fanta...

Re: Interstate 94
It's interesting that the eastbound lane isn't carried through the MN 101 interchange, but maybe that would make it hard for all the traffic from south 101 to merge on.

Re: Hwy 610
I don't think it will affect traffic that much. I can't think of a reason you would drive on both the new section of MN 610 and MN 252.

Re: U.S. Highway 14
It looks like they're not going to build an interchange at this time east of Owatonna. There's a news release stating that the local farmers didn't like the idea of a reduced conflict intersection, so they're going to build a standard intersection instead. On the Nicollet bypass, an interchange isn'...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Four lanes on County 25 has nothing to do with the later idea for a freeway through uptown. My 1953 map shows it as four lanes, there was an effort in the 1950s to built "commuting corridors" as I like to call them, expressways ending at city limits. What is now County 81 is another exampl...

Re: United Health Corporate HQ - Eden Prairie
I don't agree that every single major company in the area should be downtown, I'm certainly glad Blue Cross is not. But what about United offering employee bicycles like Blue Cross does. Now that Blue Cross has sold their Waterview building and vacated Eagandale, all the employees still working in t...
