Re: 700 Washington & Third Apartments/Hotel

Zenith is a quarter block with 65 units and 9 stories. The Aloft next door is a half-block with 155 rooms. Granted the apartments in the new proposal likely won't be the size of Zenith's condos, but I'd expect a good-sized building for the area if they are using a half-block. Maybe in the 10-story ...

Re: Mill & Main - (501 Main Street Southeast)

Oh, I thought 5th was gone. Any idea on the ownership? This whole block looks pretty interesting.
The parcels facing Main St. are split between Doran (Mill & Main) and Dominium (A-Mill properties).

It's laid by hand, as you can see in one of my previous posts: They've started the stonework on the two-story townhomes (area under the pool area). http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8341/8192831431_f32c76946e.jpg Mill & Main by dmd.hashw , on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8205/8193918606_7b6e...

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory

At the same time, it's a factory, so probably not a great view for pedestrians. Unless they have it set up like a Krispy Kreme shop ;) It will be made up for I think. Love it. ;)
Speak for yourself. I love doing factory tours. :)

It would be nice to get some more people from the under-60 crowd onto the council. I don't know too much about either person to weigh in on who would be a better candidate though.

Interesting to see that they kept those LTR station arches in these renderings. I recall someone being concerned that those would go away with the new stadium.

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)

I'm 95 percent sure that people have moved into this. Which doesn't make sense, because the garage part isn't open and the only complete-looking door I can see is a little side door. But there are lights on and furniture in the units of the upper levels.

Re: Mill & Main - (501 Main Street Southeast)

Still no retail in phase II?
There's an abundance of vacant retail throughout the Main St. area. I recall one of the aims of this project was to add bodies to the area, making some of those spaces viable again.

I'm curious as to how much of a setback this will be for the construction of 222.

Re: Pillsbury A Mill Redevelopment

I've been wondering...do you have to be an artist to live here? How would one verify such a thing? Submit a portfolio of your work with your application? I don't see what's so different about this place from any other apartment building, other than "gallery and performance spaces and a variety...

Re: Mill & Main - (501 Main Street Southeast)

Is phase two for this supposed to go on Main Street, between this and the A Loft building? Or would it go behind this? It'll be on Main Street. They've already done some demolition of additional buildings in preparation of construction. Here's some info I posted about it earlier in the thread: http...

Re: Physics and Nanotechnology Building

Is copper more expensive than brick ?
I guess I don't actually know how expensive it is, but I figure it's not cheap if it's getting stolen all the time.
Copper is somewhat expensive, yes, but the thefts have more to do with the relative ease in which to "aquire" and sell it.

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

Ahh, got it. Fair enough. Seems misleading though as it implies that no high-rise construction has occurred. They could equally say: "this is the 5th high-rise residential tower built in the last decade downtown." (It is 5, right? Grant Park, Skyscape, Carlyle, & Ivy were the 4 built ...

Re: Vikings Stadium

You guys, they should just build the stadium in Block E and combine it with the new Surly brewery and a catsino. Then Rybak will eliminate property taxes. Problem solved.

Re: SimCity

The real problem with the new version is the city plots in the region have swaths of empty space between them yet the "cities" are only 2km x 2km. There is no way to make vast mega-regions. The best you can do is a few dense blocks surrounded by undevelopable greenfield. Until they releas...

Didn't everyone act like the rendering of this building was the Antichrist? It looks fine.
I think it was the mismatch of the new and existing brick that was throwing everyone off.
