Re: Hi-Lo Diner (4020 Lake St E)
The coffee? Strong and flavorful. But you can't sell $3 coffee in a place that's called a diner. Literally the next day I had a breakfast at a Waffle House in Mississippi that cost $7 that was better in every way. The coffee admittedly wasn't as good, but it also cost maybe a buck. Thanks for the w...

Re: Cedar Ave - Nokomis Area
What is the etiquette regarding the drive-thru for the Caribou Coffee at Cedar and Minnehaha Pkwy? When the line extends into the street, why do cars park on Cedar Ave. to wait for the drive-thru line to move? Why not just park and walk in the store? So, how about Cedar Ave?

How about Rockford? I did know a few people who commuted from there when I worked in western suburbs. Maybe Wright County is too far?

Re: City living trends and predictions
There is probably truth to it. But the writer was way too busy with being patronizing to add anything new to the conversation. Again, I'd love to see data on the millennials who are leaving urban centers to see where they end up, not just a blanket label of 'suburbs'. I have a hard time believing t...

Re: City living trends and predictions
Yeah, I didn't get why economic forces would leave one stuck in the city. The city is generally a lot more expensive. I could see moving to the burbs if space really was an issue (I'm picturing raising a kid or two in a tiny NYC apartment, not a SFH neighborhood in Austin, Denver, Portland, etc.).

Can we also address the bigger reason why these aren't taking off? The ridiculous owner-occupation requirement. I'd love to build an ADU - and I have no intent of moving away from my property - but I don't want to take away real value on my property as it relates to future opportunity costs. And it...

I love the new paint color on the upper floor and the brick looks great. Nice improvement of the building.

It's funny, because on the opposite side of the park (Park Ave), there's a different vibe. I love all those brownstone apartments (w/balconies) on Park/Franklin facing the park. The trees are also more mature. That makes a big difference.

Re: Northside - General Topics
That's a good article. I see two separate issues though. One is providing employment opportunities for North Mpls residents. The other is general investment by businesses. They aren't always aligned. I can see the more businesses (like DC Group mentioned in the article) setting on the River Rd area....

Re: Renting vs. Owning | Apartments vs. Condos
The West 7th prices seem really high to me. I checked some of the closed sales in past few months and I didn't see any abnormally high priced properties that would skew the average. But the housing availability isn't surprising. I hardly see any properties for sale in S/SW Mpls. If I do, they tend t...

Anyone else notice the empty stores recently? Fun Sisters closed after Christmas and the 44th St Nursery closed last spring (to my utter dismay!). There are Landscape Love trucks parked there, but the For Sale sign is still up. There has been For Lease sign in the Frame Ups shop for a long time now,...

http://members.kctruth.com/ Found out what has been under construction in the Flour Exchange building. Kind of a weird idea. There was an article about this in the Strib last week: http://www.startribune.com/kruskopf-company-opens-truth-bar-instead-of-the-normal-conference-room/368696931/ I don't g...

Minneapolis. The Portland one looks very dated to me already. It reminds me of the Riverside Plaza for some reason.

Re: Uptown Hotel Discussion
No, age has nothing to do with it really. A lot of older homeowners would support a nice hotel in their neighborhood.I think age might have something to do with it too. As a young homeowner I don't care if they put a hotel in my neighborhood.

The only reason my father bought a townhouse in Lakeville is that he wanted relatively new construction and couldn't afford a single family house. The only thing within walking distance of it is a gasoline station. I suspect there's a large number of people that either like it to be easy to drive e...

While probably not ideal for millennials, I could totally see my parents buying a place like this when they sell their house. (Its sister-property 1200 On The Mall is actually the one that I've been eyeing for them.) I'm curious about this statement. Why is it not ideal? Location? Style? Full discl...

Last summer I think CM Glidden proposed that all landlords in Mpls are required to accept Section 8 vouchers. I'm not sure if it went anywhere, since I haven't heard about it since.

Minnesotans are the second-fastest talkers in the country (after residents of Oregon), and are also the fifth-least verbose and fifth-least impatient (at least on the phone). http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2016/02/speaking-fast-and-slow/459393/ I find that humorous because I have ...

It was right down the street from Thorpe Park. On Minnetonka Blvd. Did you enjoy the area as a kid?I grew up in Deephaven actually, north-east of Thorpe Park. Where did you look?About 10 years ago we looked at selling our Mpls home and purchasing a lovely old home in Deephaven.
