Re: New Third Precinct Station

I’ve never seen the cops in my neighborhood, even before 2020, so that’s moot for me personally, but the burned out building is a massive blight on an area that needs a lot of help. If it’s politically untenable to ever use that building again they should have torn it down two years ago.

New Third Precinct Station

Surprised we don't have a dedicated thread to this yet. After many starts and stops, Frey is now proposing 2600 Minnehaha Ave. https://www.startribune.com/frey-heres-my-choice-for-3rd-precinct-police-station-minnehaha-minneapolis-city-council/600309719/?refresh=true As someone who lives in the third...

Re: 1501 Como Ave Apartments

While in the area recently I was reminded of this building, which has a first floor apartment staring straight down 15th Avenue, and how did this ever happen?

Re: Denver

Thanks, everyone, for the tips. All very helpful. Last night I booked a trip ... to Charlotte. Moral of the story: If you have a Delta companion certificate be aware that options are super restrictive. Almost everything involved very early morning flights. Denver had an option for an 11am return, bu...

Re: Denver

Is Denver worth visiting for a weekend without a car? I've got some rewards points to burn by the end of the year but it feels like the whole point of going to Colorado is to get out of the city, and some digging around online hasn't convinced me otherwise yet.

This isn't even worth a discussion. The people in charge of local, public assets should have a connection to the community.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

The county has lots of office space / service centers outside the main downtown location. It’s my understanding that the relatively new building on Lake Street is pretty empty, so I assume others are similar.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

A lot of public sector workers don’t work downtown, so you’d either have to bring them back too for no reason, or arbitrarily force certain employees to come back, apparently against their wishes.

Re: St. Paul Restaurant News

The statement makes this closing sound pretty isolated and permanent, but in theory a move up the road to the area around Allianz Field would make a lot of sense. That Snelling location was always kind of random.

Bill McGuire held a meeting last night with lots of updates on the development plans. Here are two threads that capture a lot of them:

An urbanist YouTube account called CityNerd (who I hadn’t heard of but who has almost 200k subscribers) visited Minneapolis and put together a pretty good outsider’s view of the city.

NYT has an article about Rome’s bid for the 2030 World’s Fair, which led me to looking up the one we’re bidding for here. Turns out the vote is in two days. So there’s that.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit

In fairness, the 1-lane sections are effectively in place now and they're noticeably more congested, so if you're predisposed to be against change it's easy to jump to the conclusion that the new road is worse. Of course, the road is under construction so it's surely more congested than it will be w...

Construction on Lake Street is officially underway. The 4-3 conversion is not going over well on Nextdoor.

Re: Northern Lights Express

Remember a 2.5-hour train ride probably requires at least an extra half hour of travel time for most people to get to the station etc. It seems like the real engine to make this work would be commuters going a stop or two, as opposed to tourists going to Grandma’s (no pun intended) on weekends, no?
