Re: North Loop Neighborhood
That's a really unflattering rendering of that 2nd street project. There's no way it'll end up looking that gloomy in real life. They managed to make it look abandoned on a cloudy mid-winter day, despite the blue skies behind it in the rendering. The shots of the exterior materials in the packet lo...

Re: Calvary Church re-development
It looks like they're also planning to renovate the church itself and repurpose it to add 20 units. I've seen great repurposed churches in cities like Cleveland and Philly. I am intrigued, however, that the congregation still calls this building home. I wonder if they have plans to move, or if the f...

Re: The Dayton's Project
The Dayton's Project announced a retail opening on November 18th and a new website. The vendor list looks pretty lacking. Hopefully they can pick up some additional tenants before they open. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=918199198905205&id=181384859253313&m_entstream_source=ti...

Re: Nicollet Ave / Eat Street - Whittier, Stevens, Loring Park
Excited about this! This stretch of Nicollet on the border of Stevens Square and Whittier is pretty desolate and it makes "Eat Street" comes to a crashing stop.

Re: Viking Lakes Development - Eagan
This is interesting, really unexpected news! I'm really glad to hear it though, curling is big in Nordic countries so this definitely fits in with MSP's brand. Not sure how many jobs this will bring, but I'm glad to hear we are still attracting newcomers to the region after a chain of losses.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I think it is a bit generous to call that "Japanese architecture." Also, this rendering is clearly lacking detail--notice how the residential buildings in the background look like they were made in Minecraft? I'm sure the final product will look substantially better.

Re: Elliot Park
^I feel this way about single-family (or smaller complexes) homes in residential parts of the city-- Minneapolis is, in a lot of ways, a hub for culture, art, etc. so I wish we had houses in flamboyant colors to cheer us up in the winter. In terms of newer, larger developments, I am split. A lot of ...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago
Maybe the map doesn't portray all of the ins and outs of the Amtrak network, but based on this map it looks like Rochester was overlooked even though it lies directly on the route from Madison to MSP? This seems like a snub, especially considering some of the other proposed stops are substantially s...

Not at all sure if this is related, but this building was recently (early March 2021) approved for a National Register of Historic Places designation: https://lims.minneapolismn.gov/download/Agenda/1724/RPT-233%20Park%20Ave.pdf/53488/2271/233%20Park%20Ave I could see this designation potentially imp...

This looks awesome, but how long has that rendering been up/is there actually any momentum on this project? I haven't seen much about it as of late

It's a shame to lose out on that fabulous building they initially proposed but this development definitely serves a good purpose. That part of Washington Avenue is such a huge barrier (both physical and mental) between the Mill District and Downtown East, and this infill would make it feel (marginall...

Good points all around! I know Fuji-Ya was the first Japanese restaurant in Minnesota (per Southwest Journal). https://www.southwestjournal.com/news/biz-buzz/2020/06/fuji-ya-closes-in-lynlake/ However, thanks for noting that this wasn't the initial location. I've walked by recently and it looks like...

Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics
Re: the question of yet-to-be-developed parcels, I'm really surprised that the Lynlake parking lot RFP (for the parking lot behind the former Fuji-Ya) was canceled and that this acre (!) of land still hasn't attracted any interested parties. I personally think LynLake has more of that lively, altern...

Re: Elliot Park
I have to say, I actually agree to an extent. It doesn't seem like the ~1000 students contribute significantly to Elliot Park's economy (frankly, the school is quite religious, so it doesn't seem like bars/clubs have bloomed around its campus). The campus is tiny at 9 acres, so at least they aren't ...
