Re: The Penfield

I saw some workers earlier today around the building. So things are definitely a go. :D

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations

During the Mayor Coleman years there was a proposal to have gondolas(skyride) from the Science Museum to Harriet Island. REALLY!! The skytower may have been tied in with that. I'll try to locate the article in the PP archives. Methinks that was just another one of Bill Hosko's "visions". ...

Re: Culver's (1491 University Avenue)

Sometimes you can find site plans on the city's website under Planning Commission homepage. You gotta dig hard though. I recall it was approved with a bit of reluctance by the commission. They didn't like the design much either. But it was this or having to live with another vacant blighted building.

Re: Nicollet Residences

The building's prestige isn't losing anything by the loss of a few floors. It's on Nicollet Mall afterall. Home to the IDS, Wells Fargo Center, Target, US Bank, etc etc.

This has been an empty lot for about 20 years, lets not forget that.

Re: Nicollet Residences

Well after further consideration, since they are reducing the number of apartments, they'll also need less parking. They could wind up removing 5 residential levels and 1 parking level. Which might make the height a couple feet taller than the 307 figure I gave. Then again, they might want the extra...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations

It was more like 800 feet. It was proposed about 10-15 years ago. Some proposed placing it in Cleveland Circle next to the Xcel. One idea was to build it on the Sears parking lot near the Capital.

Re: Nicollet Residences

I'll take slicing off 6 floors over not building at all. 27 stories will still make a nice impact on the skyline. Agreed. Plus, in the end it comes down to height. Yes, number of floors is a function of that, but this could still be 400 feet despite being 27 stories. I figure it'll be 307 feet. The...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ

According to the reporting, the construction of the office building is being timed to coincide with the expiration of leases in the buildings where many of the Xcel workers currently have offices. As those existing leases expire, the workers will move into their new digs across from the Xcel HQ on ...

Reminds me a bit of Lawson Commons. Glad to see this ramp going away too. This and Nicollet Residences should dramatically improve this stretch of Nicollet Mall.

Re: Velo apartments

This is a sharp looking design. Does anyone know if this is likely to be stick construction? The first two floors will have to be brick/concrete, but the top 4 could be stick, correct? The way it's usually done is the first floor is concrete, the rest is wood framed. From the render it looks like t...

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development

The good news is if the rental market crashes it only really effects the developers and banks who financed them. When the condo market collapsed it hurt thousands of homeowners directly. If rental vacanies shoot up, it likely just means lower rents for the people living in them. Some properties coul...

Re: Cossetta's Alimentari

The choice of color for the brick is a disappointment. But I do like the arches, the large windows, and the rooftop seating.

And it gets rid of another surface lot along W 7th. So overall it's a win. But still a shame about the brick.
