Re: Bloomington Central Station & South Loop Development

IndiGo is moving along, concrete & steel(?) base going up, stick framing work already underway for first floor on top of that. It's amazing how quickly we can build when we don't dig 4 levels of underground parking.

For a company that usually creates suburban masterpiece's of the "slightly better than bland" variety, with a few very notable exceptions, I am thoroughly impressed. Mark this one down as another exception, and color me excited for how this progresses. A win for the Portland corridor and D...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

I've never really understood the appeal of these suburban apartment complexes. All of the drawbacks of both urban and suburban living with none of the perks of being suburban. The perk was and for the most part still is that an apartment in the suburbs is usually bigger and costs less. There still ...

Re: Bloomington Central Station & "South Loop" area

I have not been over near the new Hyatt site in about a month, but according to the City of Bloomington's newsletter, the IndiGO apartments by Lennar on the adjacent parcel are "underway", and the city page page listing shows as updated in March 2015 with an anticipated start of construct...

Let's all admit one thing that can be safely assumed, I think: The surrounding long lasting development of the WF towers, the apartments that come along with them, the Commons Park, the Thresher Square rehab, the Armory rehab, all future development 2-5 years down the line on nearby parking lots or ...

Fort Snelling Upper Post Afordable Housing

Perhaps I've missed the thread, and if so please merge this into it, but I'll post here for now. Dominium has been selected to restore the historic Upper Post of Fort Snelling into affordable workforce housing, in what I my opinion is a surprising collaborative agreement between the National Parks S...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

I grew up in East Bloomington in a rambler typical of your second generation of postwar housing stock, built in an area that in the 30's and 40's was still mostly prairie and wetland. By the time my parents purchased the home, most lots in the neighborhood that weren't lucky enough to have had origi...

Finally, something affordable to real people! Per the Strib: "Schafer Richardson is hatching a plan to convert the Cameron Transfer and Storage Co. building at 756 N. 4th St. into 44 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments that will be affordable to those who earn 50 to 60 percent of the area m...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis

The difference now is that there isn't an R.T. Rybak to champion ideas like this when they have seen the positives that can come from a little bit (or a lot) of civic assistance. Yes, building stadiums is most likely a money losing proposition for governments, but in this day and age it's part of en...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium

This brouhaha over the signage seems kind of silly to me. Just look at Citi Field in NY, Met Life in NY/NJ, AT&T Stadium in Dallas, or Ford Field in Detroit. All of them have either extremely prominent street visible signage or, in the case of AT&T and Ford, extremely large rooftop signs. Oo...

We have not ran out of small store fronts. We just have not utilized them in a responsible way. Here's to hoping that some will move to the Harmon Place neighborhood where there is a Lund's, CVS, and other stores that can help create a more vibrant retail node. Bring on the renters and new customer...

A little piece to temper enthusiasm for the inevitable. Sad to see the loss space for locally owned small businesses anywhere, especially downtown, but the North Loop will gain some additional flavor from at least one relocation. http://www.startribune.com/time-is-up-for-rare-slice-of-old-downtown/3...
