Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Kind of cynical but I don't think expanding highway 10 will do much damage to the northstar in the long run since expanding highway capacity only relieves traffic congestion for a bit but ends up getting even worse then before (see Katy freeway). So yeah its gonna suck that they'll be more cars on t...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
I was actually there today around 4:30-5:00pm on bike looking around the lower part and I didn't see anything so it either just happened right after I left or I was completely oblivious. Saw a few news reports that the opening has been delayed as a result and officials have to evaluate the structure...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
Knowing how other projects go, if the people in charge think its far enough along it takes something really big to change the plan, cough* blue line extension cough*. I think the Riverview is still in the engineering and pre-environmental phase of work so maybe there's still a chance to fix some of ...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Orange Line begins service on Saturday, December 4! Even better, a week from today (Monday 10/18), the Lake Street Station opens for service, serving Metro Transit routes 21, 27, 535, 553, and 578; and SouthWest Transit routes 600 and 695. Is the MVTA still on their shit list over the redline or we...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I think those sections of trails were paved so crews could have an easier access to the sites, I don't think there will be officially open any time soon. I have snuck on both sections a bit on bike and they both seem nice which is a relief because I was worried years ago the trails would be neglecte...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Random thought when I caught the friends of the 261 doing some testing today, it might be interesting to do a event/meetup like the old northstar, A line, and Red line ones but using the SWLRT to either take the SWLRT to Minneapolis and hop on the excursion train or try to time a SWLRT train to foll...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
I think I remember some stories of Prince liking the twin cities in general (didn't daytons use one of his quote when it was under construction) and there are a few unexpected celebrates who hang around here, off the top of my head Bill Murray used to show up at saints games and iirc owned a house s...

Re: Latest Census Estimates and Met Council Projections
Just a random thought but how many people do places like Bloomington and Brooklyn Park need to add before they are treated like actually cities instead of just suburbs. I'm sure someone can think of a good list of criteria but it does seem silly that there are places with more people than Duluth but...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
What about just closing down 8th avenue and building a pedestrian bridge across? I don't think a bridge is needed to cross that section of excelsior, while it is a strode it isn't as masive as some of the other ones around the cities and I think they might of narrowed it a bit by removing some turn...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Part of me is kinda glade Hopkins is the first place to get track laid But the fact that the image they used has the Honda dealership is in full view less then 100ft away from the station still kinda stings That's why I propose (jokingly) that they rename it Hopkins Honda Station. :P Would be nice ...

How has ridership levels been recently, obviously there no where close to pre pandemic levels but I at least hope there better than during the height of the shutdown.

Re: Northern Lights Express
It was on amtracks 2035 plain and they have been making a few noises about it for years although I don't know how many people still support/oppose it or how many people it needs to finally get out of the "shovel ready" status. Side note I do recall a transportation engineer and someone who...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
Y'all will disagree, but the root of this problem wasn't the selection of the Kenilworth Corridor as the preferred route for the LRT, it was the failure to kick the freight rail out. If they'd played their cards right with the TC&W, SWLRT would be running at grade on cheap ballasted track throu...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
I wonder if it's worth removing the 21st and maybe bryn mawr and doing a deep tunnel through the corridor since they seem too pig headed to change the route.
I mean it's not like anyone will miss the stations (probably) and deep tunneling seems like it'll be faster at this rate.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
Since over 85% of the state's lane miles are outside the Metro district and most of this money is for routine maintenance, it's a safe bet most of it will go to outstate Minnesota. I guess driving up to a cabin, resort, lodge, or campground on the North Shore still beats sitting around your city ho...

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
I thought Highway 61 had a second lane up till Two Harbors, I know my brother went to Lutsen for a bike race a few weeks ago and was annoyed a bit with either traffic or some kind of construction that far north. Speaking of 61 I wonder how many people would try to argue that it should be expanded to...
