Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
They do like their own stations, but mostly for land development reasons. I could see two scenarios where they would be open to using existing infrastructure: - Union Depot gives them the space and means to create their own customer experience at the station, similar to airport lounges for preferre...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
I'm of the opinion every single state flag that uses the same blue background, slaps a seal in the middle regardless what said seal may or may not represent, and plasters it's name on the damn flag, is trash and any excuses to redesign them are welcome.

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
Lets see them win another world series first before they start asking for a new stadium. Should of actually been a condition for funding US Bank since that might of meant the Vikings finally winning something.

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
This might be a hot take but let me cook.
Brightline probably won't really look at the route for another 10 years
Target Field will be 23 years old at that time
The Twins moved out of the Metrodome after 25 years and Metropolitan Stadium after 20.

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
I really doubt they would choose Eau Claire over Rochester if their end goal was a new Chicago route. If their other projects follow suit with the way they developed Florida and they build an initial operating segment while they continue developing and negotiating further extensions, MSP-Rochester ...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
Ok I'm a bit more willing to believe Brightline (or a real private company and not some Chinese scam company this time) coming to Minneapolis might be possible in 10ish year, but based on what I've seen from the FL and Vegas projects I'm willing to bet 2 things 1) they'll probably build their own st...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
Would be nice if we could get Brightline on board, but they'd probably want it to be a Twin Cities-Rochester-Madison-Milwaukee-Chicago HSR service, which is a route that makes the most sense if we were to have any HSR service in our region, but it would be difficult from a political and economic st...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
Feel like it might be worth reviving the thread since the gag order was lifted and there's a little discussion in the Dan Patch thread. Said it before but I don't see much happening unless Amtrak wants a third route to Chicago via Rochester, but who knows what will happen since TBH I really didn't t...

Re: Northern Lights Express
Assuming the extra dollars go to purchasing trainsets, in lieu of renting, does that effectively reduce the ongoing operating costs? I'm hoping they can leverage that into either lower fares, or banking an operational profit margin to pay for future (speed) improvements. Lower fares are needed. Wit...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
I'm happy for the dan patch gag order being lifted, but still think ziprail has a snowball's chance in hell of happing (at least the true HSR 220mph proposal) regardless unless they can extend it to Chicago.

Re: Northern Lights Express
Bit of a fantasy question but if you had to choose one option where most of the extra money would improve, would you choose:
A) Faster Trains
B) More frequent service
C) Better stations

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
I think Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway don't really care about passenger service and are completely fine with BNSF only investing in freight operations (iirc most of their investments have been centered around intermodal improvements) unlike Fortress and Wes Edens who let's be honest only created br...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
The state gives plenty to truck companies with all the massive roads and highways we built, seems only fair we give something to railroads, which is the most efficient land-based transportation we have. A couple years ago MnDOT helped fund a bridge rehab project in South Minneapolis on Canadian Pac...

https://i.imgur.com/fBBqOPc.png The comparison between the rendering and the satellite image is really something. The render implies that the entrance and BigBowl area will be changed. It looks like the Big Bowl restaurant gets lopped off in the rendering, and that the Rosedale entrance is rebuilt ...

Re: Heritage lines, excursion trains, and other railroad attractions in MN
Noticed something in the freight rail forecast that the north shore scenic railroad is looking for $760,000 in support for a "rail siding for private car Bed & Breakfast" Anyone know what car/plan they could be talking about? iirc they did add the Puget Sound to their collection but I ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I'm not sure this will effect the state much but Andy Byford has been hired as the Senior Vice President for Amtrak’s high-speed rail.
Don't think this will magically revive zip rail but isn't the nlx still pitched as higher speed or did they bump the top speed of 90mph to 79mph.

They repaired it awhile ago and I swear they also extended it a bit since I swear it used to end at buff creek dr but now it goes all the way down to chaska and maybe carver.

The depot will close down effective April 2nd.
Hopefully they'll find a use for it and leave it abandon or worse, demolished it.
