Re: West Lake Station / Calhoun Village area - multimodal study, development, etc.

Damn. Good news for transit density, hopefully this neighborhood can convert from being auto to pedestrian oriented asap. Agreed, it'll also be nice if SWLRT actually gets built and I'm still hoping we have a chance at the Midtown Streetcar someday. Related, projects like this which increase the de...

Re: City living trends and predictions

If ride-sharing apps, increased transit and computer-driven cars could reduce the number of vehicles on the road maybe we could make convert more of our streets to those proposals with Northside Greenway or etc. It'll be great to get back some of that acreage. (As you mention in your article.) I per...

Re: Nicollet Mall

That granite was sooo slippery...I'll never forget it. We'll probably see how the street decorates when the Super Bowl comes. Right now it's just barren looking with few people on it given the cozy skyways. (Open Streets last weekend did pull people out onto the street. It'll be great is downtown bu...

Re: TCF Bank Building Redevelopment

Does the top floor in this building have high ceilings, or is that just the appearance from the exterior? I notice people actually use the atrium which is nice. I hope this project is just a placeholder and in 10 years we'll get a tower proposal. The space should be worth a lot then during the next ...

Re: Northside - General Topics

Juxtaposition is replacing the building on the NW corner of Emerson and Broadway with a skatepark. Not sure how I feel about tearing down that old streetcar era building for open space, but I can't be against more skateparks... http://www.kare11.com/article/sports/nfl/superbowl/super-bowl-grant-to-...

Re: Google Maps

I click on the link above and stumbled onto Nicollet Mall before the redo and found it somewhat stunning to see the contrast between then and now. I must saw I'm partial to the way it was before after seeing all the trees, flowers and colored pavers. https://www.google.com/maps/@44.9791397,-93.27036...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

Well, I talked to a friend at Graco and the idea of a single Pfppt! doesn't fly. No big surprise. New stencils would have to be created for each separate color on each existing stencil type. (Hmm, I wonder how many different versions there are of each basic type, meaning leaves, branches and slashe...

Re: Opus North Loop Apartments on W river parkway

One of the photos in the packet showed the substation across Plymouth Avenue from this project. I looked It up one Google maps and realized this is unfortunately taking up a lot of nice land right on the river.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

After some quick Googling I found that we have the products out there for this. Perhaps not the colors we would like. But, then Valspar offers some of these products and I'm sure if the City made some calls and offered small plaque describing how the stencils were colored they would find something t...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

Chiming in a little late, but my wife and I took the trip up to Big Lake and then to SPUD. We met a nice gentleman while getting tickets and spent the trip chatting with him about trains, travel, Minneapolis (he is a 40 year Prospect Park resident), and everything in-between. It was a great time an...

Re: Housing Market/Economics - General Topics

I've lived in the Exurbs and people looking for affordable housing out there is risky. Yes, housing is cheaper, but a lot of other costs especially those relating to transportation are pricier. It also seems like people move out there and often buy homes and lifestyles they can't afford with their l...

Re: Old Thrivent HQ Block - 4th Ave and 6th St (existing building & new parking ramp)

How feasible and likely is it that Hennepin County is able to consolidate the Juvenile Court buildings on 5th and Park? The land they're sitting on with the building and adjacent parking lot is now perfect for residential development overlooking The Commons. Along with the Family Court building, th...

Re: Old Thrivent HQ Block - 4th Ave and 6th St (existing building & new parking ramp)

Looks like the purchase of the old Thrivent building is already starting to pay for itself. Hennepin County canceled a $11 million project which had bids of $18 million for a new Courts facility in Bloomington. Instead they're directing residents Downtown given that the Courthouse will have more cap...

Re: New City of Minneapolis Office Building

Were you expecting a new tunnel connection?
No, it's just interesting that one of the reasons for the location is for connections to city hall. Maybe this will put more people on the street level as the skyway haters have wanted.

Re: New City of Minneapolis Office Building

It's interesting that City Hall won't have a great skyway connection to the new building. It'll be much quicker to get between the two by walking outdoors.

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

Eyeballing it, it actually looks like it could shorten the travel distance through there. I agree. I think it's also worth noting that the U of M won't pay for it. They said the city and developers would have to fit the bill. I think the space could make for a great linear park or Greenway maybe wi...
