Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)

If this is all in reference to my "dream I can't afford" line, please move along. It was just a joke -- they have beautiful urban stores (their Manhattan store at Columbus Circle is a marvel) and they charge a premium. Good for them. I choose not to shop there, but I certainly don't begrud...

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)

The developer plans to market it not only to University students but also to faculty, staff and other professionals who wish to live near campus.
Yeah? I'm marketing my basement as a sbulet to hot 18 year old coeds, but so far no takers.

Yeah, I was at the flagship store in Austin and it was like shopping in a dream. A dream that I couldn't afford.

Re: Park Vista (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)

All excellent points. I think there is probably a more sizable demand for these units than developers realize. For instance, lawyers tend to marry each other. Such households immediately have $250k plus in income. There are a lot of lawyers downtown. And bankers. And architects. Indeed, downtown is...

Re: Park Vista (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)

One aspect of this project that I really like is that it has 3 BR units (SW Journal said this; it is correct, right?). Especially with the proximity to Gold Medal Park, this will be one of the few new projects downtown that is truly attractive to families with children. Except a 3BR condo downtown ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

Dirty little secret: the success of suburban BRT will be entirely dependent on Park-and-Rides, not walkability. Sorry, urbanistas.

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects

Someone who was told by Westminster leadership repeated to me that they are not considering housing for this site.
Is that the definition of hearsay?

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

My understanding was always that the Alderman term was dropped because it was associated to some extent with old style patronage politics, and the city was moving forward into the bright light of Good Government.

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects

Officially, there's no official proposal. The official rendering is a rendering of what the site would look like if there were a blank slate with nothing on it. Any conjecture as to what the best or worst that this might be is pure conjecture. The only issue I would raise is that Westminster has not...

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)

I agree with all of that. But I also support this development and think it is a positive addition to the neighborhood. I don't believe that to be a contradiction. I do agree with you that the extension near the white house is unnecessary and should not have been built. But did the neighborhood grou...

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)

Yes, we’ve been over all of this before, and I certainly don’t expect that I’ll change anybody’s mind, but I'll get into it again because there's a smugness on this board regarding this project that bothers me. Redisciple, you’ve been consistent with your points of view, and I appreciate that (even ...

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)

I don't think it has anything to do with the parking lot being gone - more that the neighborhood group got themselves way too worked up over this project starting 7 years ago and they did not want anything more then 2.5 stories - no compromises!! For the record, the neighborhood was very interested...

Re: Lowry Avenue Bridge

I'm somewhat skeptical that it will see very much pedestrian/bike traffic, because while it's really connected well on the Northeast side, it's a real hike before you get to anything on the North side. I don't understand the point that is being argued here. Are you saying they should have scrapped ...
