Re: Does Minneapolis have too many stoplights?

It might (ETA: not sure why I said might, I don't question Monte on these things) pre-date the bike boulevard, but that's its function now. Think it's a pretty long cycle if no one pushes the bike button.

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Hennepin follows the route of "an old Indian path." Those stories tend to be apocryphal but nonetheless, way before cars.

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)

Minneapolis has a lot of adopted plans and policies resulting from years of work by the public, staff, and multiple cycles of elected officials that all point in the same direction: - The city has adopted a modal priority framework that puts bicycles above cars. - The city's adopted street design g...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)

What percentage is from neighborhood residents that drive over? Probably close to none. It's not worth it to move your car for a few blocks. What makes us random internet commentators more knowledgeable than a business owner about where a business owners customers come from? It is very well establi...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)

If the residents don't support it and their CM doesn't. Then why should they be forced to have it? Are businesses paying assessments on this and not want it? These folks live, do business in the area and pay taxes...they should have a say just as much as those who want complete streets and etc. (Or...

Re: Civilian Shoveling Corps

The idea of a central city shoveling service is obviously absurd. Let's take a system that works 95 percent of the time What if I told you it doesn't (which you go on to demonstrate)? And, in fact, there are places where it works close to zero percent of the time? I don't think that it should be co...

Re: Civilian Shoveling Corps

This, 100% this. 311 is already full of people who apparently get their only sense of purpose by reporting other people's sidewalks. You (and Lisa Bender) also have the option of shoveling. "Your" sidewalk is an essential piece of transportation infrastructuree. specially if you're near a...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

Metro Transit is piloting metal panels at Franklin Ave Station instead of glass. It seems there has been a lot of damage issues over the years with glass, so they are trying something new. Definitely let Customer Relations know your feedback. I personally think they look neat, and if this helps sav...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board

Overall a disappointing night in general. The big question now is, with the dust settled, whether Frey and the new council can get something done with policing. Frey is a coward who just wants to get along with the rich and powerful. There will be words, but there will be no leadership. Honestly, I...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board

Question 2 failed by a wide enough margin that different/gentler wording probably wouldn't have saved it in this election. Personally, I would have voted yes had it not included the "if necessary" clause.
Really??? I mean, "could?" means the same thing, right?

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board

This amendment is really about voting for *something.* Clearly there are problems with the MPD. Almost everyone agrees significant reforms are needed. It just so happens that the one real opportunity we have to make a change was written by the minority of people who want to shrink the police force....

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board

Honestly don't think the fate of question 2 matters that much. If it passes, they'll be able to put in place a more efficient reporting structure. As you say, if Frey is the one responsible for it, even less will get done. But there's no coalition for immediately significantly reducing police levels...

willing to put every citizens safety at risk just to try something they heard on a podcast or people on twitter accused the city of something. Wow is that some condescending, ill-informed, BS.
