Re: Ayd Mill Road
Given that Maryland Ave went on a road diet between Johnson and Arkwright with a daily vehicle count of 23,000 with no true adverse affects, and Ayd Mill has a daily traffic count of 24,000 with far fewer stoplights, I think this reconfiguration will be just fine.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned here yet - but GREAT news!

Re: Ceresota Building Apartments (155 5th Ave S)
Did this project ever finish? Every time I walk by that blank wall on 2nd St, I think they should be allowed to put some windows into the lower part of that wall below the Ceresota sign and maybe an awning facing the sidewalk. Activate this wall: https://goo.gl/maps/yzUpaQjQWEtvAnRt9 IMO this could...

Re: St. Paul Restaurant News
They have a working relationship of some sort to the point that there would be a police substation rent-free in the basement of Tin's. I'm not necessarily against a police substation somewhere near Rice & Maryland. But I don't think that a police substation replaces the longer-term need to make ...

And to her credit - Gidget wants to meet with me! We were going to on Sunday to chat a bit about our visions for Rice Street, but something came up and wasn't able to, so she bought me and my friend a round of beers. Truly an extraordinarily kind woman who does care about the neighborhood. I am hope...

Tin Cup's moving to Vadnais Heights
Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here, but Tin Cup's is moving. https://www.twincities.com/2018/11/03/tin-cups-owner-says-shes-closing-and-moving-to-vadnais-heights-she-blames-city-leadership-for-escalating-north-end-violence/ Having a bullets whiz by your family is terrible. I wonder why so many people are mis-representing Ortega and McDonough's motives.I wonder if Lucerne has more than 2 Empire Builders a day.

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
Today's streets.mn article even points to the fact that Union Depot will be an important transportation hub. Yes, a transfer hub for *people connecting to intercity rail* not *commuters trying to get a half mile closer to their jobs in the downtown core.* Even so, does that somehow change the fact ...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
You're disappointed by putting the station closer to origins/destinations? Strawman argument. I'm arguing in favor of the downtown loop for the Gold Line, for cripe's sake. Please don't put words in my mouth. People connected to the Green Line project and involved in that decision say that it was a...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
Gotta artificially drive usage of Union Depot so we can pretend the quarter billion dollars spent to restore it for two trains a day was worth it. I am on the Gold Line CBAC. While I disagree with Commissioner McDonough's stance on the issue of the "loop" - I do understand his vision for ...

Re: Demolition of West Publishing / old jail
That looks like an office building -- does St. Paul need office space? Talking with the owner of the 428, she very much sees the need for office space in downtown St. Paul -- which is why she wanted to bring the market something new and different. Redoing the old Woolworth into the first WELL-certi...

Re: Avenues- Replace Numbers With Names
We don't really have state names for streets either. Lots of cities have a "Minnesota St/Ave". Actually, "we" do have state names for lots of streets, organized (for the most part) in a logical manner. Nearly all the east-west streets bounded by Arlington and Larpenteur / Snelli...

Re: Arby’s Island
At both the city and state level we fund the arts, from the Legacy amendment to public art/sculptures, couldn't we do something similar with architecture? Perhaps truly interesting and solid architecture isn't possible in this day and age without a public/private partnership. I think it's worth inv...

Re: Arby’s Island
The problem with applying that way of thinking to now is the same struggle Minneapolis went through with the Nicollet Lot. Just because something of note should be built somewhere because of the angles the roads come to or a site's prominence in a neighborhood, doesn't mean there's going to be some...

Re: Michigan Central Station to be rehabbed by Ford
It's deliciously ironic that it will be Ford's hub for autonomous vehicles. I wonder if Amtrak will consider moving their operations back to the station? Apparently the depot Amtrak built in Detroit after they left MCS was only supposed to be a temporary structure. It would also be cool if the Peopl...

Michigan Central Station to be rehabbed by Ford
I feel giddy about this, and I don't even live in Detroit! I love it when wiser minds prevail to preserve historic buildings. The building will be saved; just a few years ago the city was strongly considering demolishing it. http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20180611/news/663281/moroun-confirms-d...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
Three of these malls are not like the others, though is that just because of recent anchor closings? (like JCPenny in Southdale and Sears in Burnsville Center last year?) Northtown Mall (Blaine): 1.65% vacancy rate (losing a Herbergers this year) Ridgedale Center: 2.07% vacancy rate Mall of America...
