Re: Northern Lights Express

This MPR story implies that most of that extra funding will go towards buying the trainsets, which were apparently not included in the previous estimates.
Apparently they were planning on renting them

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

A lot of the random traffic lights are due to the pedestrian priority network. The city feels like crossing a traffic light is safer than a stop sign as a pedestrian.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

It's still absolutely frustrating that the majority of the line will be done this year, except for the stupid tunnel. Everything is going to sit unused for 3 to 4 years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk From the trail closures list, it seems like construction will be going in places that are not ...

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

Yes, the route 5 runs from Brooklyn Center Transit Center to Chicago & 56th St Station. When the Osseo Rd Construction is done, and the new Osseo & 47th Ave Station is open, the 5 will end there instead. It currently runs once an hour, the hope is to bump up to 30 min frequency once more op...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

As of about 2 weeks ago, the expanded parking ramp at Southwest Station looks functionally complete - seems to just be missing stripes to define parking spaces and a few other finishing touches. I wonder if they will keep it mothballed for now though - SWT riders don't even come close to filling up...

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

Have they kept any of the local five routes going down Chicago so that a person with a disability wouldn't have to walk three blocks to get to the bus stop? Just curious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes, the route 5 runs from Brooklyn Center Transit Center to Chicago & 56th St Station. W...

Re: Do we really have a massive housing shortage?

IMO the "80,000 units in the next 5 years" is probably somewhat building & construction trades propaganda, not a scientific number. It is true that there's been a bit of stagnation in the metro area's population since 2020, as more households than ever before are able to decouple thei...

Re: Do we really have a massive housing shortage?

12.4% growth from 2010-2020 in Minneapolis 9.3% growth from 2010-2020 in St Paul Minneapolis growth numbers by percent have outpaced Portland, Phoenix, Miami, Houston, Vegas and Boston. For Stpaul it's higher percent growth then Dallas, San Fran, San Antonio. This is not the one of the lowest growth...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Until other peak only express services rebound in ridership, I don't see the point in investing in more trips for Northstar. The omnibus bill is studying intercity rail to Fargo and St Cloud, and I think that would get far more ridership per trip then Northstar

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)

The Arcade St station has been refined to one alternative on the north side of Phalen with a ped ramp up to Neid/Arcade, and another that detours the bus via Neid, then cuts back to Phalen before the light at Arcade. That alternative keeps the stop at the same grade as Arcade, but is a little more ...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

First are we sure they are 100% going with inline middle lane platform stations like at Lake & 46th on 35W? Beyond obviously being ideal solution, they are probably the only workable solution as well that doesn't kill trip time. Dale/Victoria could make some sense as long it's part of freeway c...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

I don't know that anything except maybe Snelling should be included. With the Green Line a quarter mile north and the B Line a quarter mile south, it's fine to have the third line in the corridor be express service. Huron I'm ambivalent about - the U is a transit powerhouse, for sure, but it's a pr...

I went back and watched the video of the online meeting from Nov(?) 2022, and they are evaluating several options: * No stops (express from DTSP to DTMpls) * 1 stop (Snelling) * 3 stops (25th Ave, Snelling, Dale) * 5 stops (25th Ave, Huron, Cretin, Snelling, Dale) Couldn't find this info in any doc...

Instead of Lexington or Dale it should be Victoria, in the middle of the brand new highway cap (assuming I’m reading the political winds correctly and that is the route they will go) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That would either require deviations from the 65 and the 83. Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

The extension to Mpls seems like a real no-brainer, given the tailor-made access to I-94 via 5th St. If I had my druthers, there would be high-quality inline stations at Huron, Snelling, and possibly one of Lexington/Dale. Speaking of the Huron Blvd interchange - it seems way overbuilt, considering...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

There will always be better ways to spend money, but this is not a bad project. For one the amount of dedicated lanes and guideway will make this plausible to convert to rail in the future. This project will become a spine for the East Side and support some dense areas, and provide better connectivi...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Would the current 0.5% sales tax levied by Hennepin & Ramsey counties (for LRT & highway/guideway BRT) remain under county control, or would Met Council get control of those purse strings too? If we get an elected Met Council (and honestly, even if we don't), I think I'd favor Met Council t...
