Did they buy the site with the hotel, or after it had been leveled and converted to a parking lot?
Edit: nevermind, the hotel was demolished in 90/91, so yes, with the hotel.

Re: Latitude 45 - (301 Washington Avenue South)
I would imagine so. There is currently a bail bonds place, and an empty pressbox bar and grill (which has been empty for as long as I've worked downtown, which is 8 years). For the record, I think this would be a terrible place for a hotel. Just go to street view and look at the sidewalk presence th...

Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)
Mortenson dropped off a little information packet to everyone in the Pence building. Here is their construction milestone schedule: - Parking Lane Closure on 9th Street North - Beginning Feb. 14th. - Bike Lane & (1) 1 Northbound Vehicle Traffic Lane Closures - Beginning Feb. 17th. - Skyway Closu...

Ugh, I cringe every time I see that building. The Mortenson reminds me of the LaSalle parking garage with the hotel on about 4 floors.

Some temporary offices are being built for the hotel construction management in the empty half of the floor I work on, so that's neat!

Yep, noticed that as well. Wonder when they're finally going to start the skyway removal. The notices still say early january if my memory serves me correct.

Re: Hwy 610
It'll be interesting to see how the completion of 610 affects traffic on 252. If anything I bet we see them bandage the problem for a decade or more by completing the expansion to three lanes the entire way in both directions. It's so mind boggling that the northbound side starts at three lanes, dro...

When I talked to Andrea of Andrea's Pizza You know his name's Mario, right? Andrea is his wife. Damn it, I did not. It's really Mario? Edit, It appears that Andrea is the name of Mario's brother, according to the website and a google search of the pizza joint. I'm pretty sure it's still Andrea who ...

Well well, there is a sign at the hawthorn end of the skyway that says the skyway will be closing in early January for removal. So I guess construction is not that far off.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f ... 340#p41505This is really off topic but what happened to the Sheraton ritz?
And if you go through slide 130, ultimately it was probably torn down for a pipe dream.
I'm done straying off topic.

The building where 4Marq is going was the Tribune building. James Lileks had posted this picture over the summer on his star trib blog.

it was the Sheraton Ritz hotel, but that isn't where 4Marq is going. That's across the street from 4Marq and the library.

Still no renderings of the external renovation? Shouldn't there be a site plan or something in the city council minutes, or do these things not generally go through those channels?

Re: Block E
I don't think a big box tech store like best buy would survive downtown, especially with MOA a light rail ride away, and countless best buy stores scattered a 15/20 minute drive. I can see a smaller niche store, like a mobile store, or apple store or MS store, but that seems like a stretch as well w...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I wonder if it would be feasible to move the Star Tribune building over one block, where the standalone residential / prison screen building is proposed. It could then be converted to housing or some other usage. I'm no expert, but if they can move the Shubert, they can move this. The Shubert was a...

Re: Block E
My hope is that having a sports team in the building will help turn Block E into more of a sports hub possibly attracting KFAN, or Fox Sports North to relocate to the building as well. Being that FSN just moved into Lasalle Plaza last year, complete with new studios and everything. I would say it's...
