Re: Vikings Stadium
Students will have visibility more than ever before possible when the light rail Central Corridor is finished in 2014. I think the light rail will help shape the student experience and get them downtown to the stone arch and Hennepin and to the mall of america for something to do, and the airport fo...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Sorry, the stadium renderings show it centered more on 5th St side rather than 4th St side of the block where the clock is, so symmetry would have to be forced a little more than I first thought.

Re: Vikings Stadium
I like the Apple store idea a lot. And the thought of some student housing--light rail would offer a nice alternative to other off campus living where students currently have to bike to class. I walked around over there and noticed that the front of the new stadium will be roughly in alignment to th...

Re: Vikings Stadium
What else will students want? They will probably be more inclined to transfer light rails there, to get to the Mall of America than to go to Rosedale, especially the students living on campus who are least likely to have cars. Or, maybe they will shop at Nicollet Mall and Target. When I went to the ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
More appropriately, sports bars under the hotel, and Trader Joe's under the mid rise residential. I like the idea of Trader Joe's because it is popular enough to draw in students and staff, and affluent neighbors, and tailgaters who run short on food or drinks. Trader Joes also usually have small pa...

Re: Vikings Stadium
One place to watch for this activity would be Elliot Park, which is 2 blocks south of the dome site. Elliot Park has a small skate park. This skate park may be moved slightly and redone, however, to make room for a full size turf soccer field that was proposed recently. If the soccer field goes in r...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Mona Restaurant is one of the newest downtown, and IMHO some of the tastiest food you can find. If you can find it, it is street level in the Accenture Tower on 8th St, in a nicely renovated space. I just learned they validate parking for the ramp under the Accenture Tower now.

Re: Vikings Stadium
And I mean new rumors since this has been approved. I've seen the months old renderings and maps showing very basic outlines of park space, and general development space. Has anyone heard any specific proposals yet?

Re: Vikings Stadium
High tech industrial buildings in that era were popping up everywhere in the suburbs, and those buildings tend to sprawl and be under 4 stories, i.e. not compete with an effort to get high density skyscrapers. It would be nice for a historian to chime in and set me straight but I really think the do...

Re: Vikings Stadium
"Back when the Metrodome was built, there was a lot of concern that it would generate a second downtown that would draw people and energy from the one that was already there. And planners didn't want to set up an entertainment district to rival what was developing in the warehouse district. So...

Re: Westminister Church Parking Lot
The building they want to remove is the Marimark on 13th and Marquette. These are people's homes so I understand the outrage, but from the reviews it sounds like affordable housing can do much better than this.

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
I see "Explore Minnesota" commercials and it makes me wonder how effective it would be to actively promote downtown Minneapolis as a great and convenient place to live long term, using similar media. I think a lot of these discussions are unified in the appreciation and ongoing improvement...
