Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
The proposed skyscrapers are somewhat few. Supertalls are non existent, but smaller infill projects are everywhere. It makes perfect sense since Minneapolis has a lot of properties/parking lots yet to build on where anything would be better than nothing. That combined with the market not large enoug...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
The small st paul parks are the best example that small parks could work. There just has to be development around them, which there will exist to make them an intimate and busy park.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
Do you know where I could look at the distribution of parking minimums?

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
This is a huge addition, this building adds a lot to the skyline, by extending it further. But I really wish there weren't parking minimum standards so there wouldn't have to be this huge parking square at the block level.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning
So I've been reading that archer Daniels midland or adm wants to move it's headquarters. One of the cities is minneapolis, and let's say it picks minneapolis, where would the hq be? They want to move 100 executives and make an IT center with 100 people at the same location. Would it be outside minne...

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)
The parking portion actually looks well done along Nicollet. It is also bigger than I thought, as in I knew it was going to be about 25 floors, but I felt it was not going to be as prominent. It actually looks very nice.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning
Okay the example I refer to with connected neighborhoods with highways in the city is nyc. There are clearly highways in the city but do they stop on the outskirts and become avenues or is nyc just so huge it doesn't matter?

^It's happening, just very slowly. Two apartment projects might be online on nicollet area in a few years, one massive one by loring park. It is happening.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning
No I wasn't referring to that because I now that isn't going to happen. I was taking about districts in minneapolis like the north loop, across from Loring park and the uptown area being divided by the highways.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning
Did the freeways ruin the chances for a large connected downtown? Or will eventually the population will grow so it doesn't matter?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning
True but a lot of the proposals are in that area. Once that area gets built, because some day it will, where will the downtown area expand to?

Re: Brunsfield Place - (915 Washington Avenue North)
Yes because this is what in my opinion causes a variety of buildings on a block which gives a cool look. Instead of one building taking up half a block and another the other half, there are three-four buildings in a block, giving it a nice feel.

Where next?
I understand that there is still a lot of development on the east side of downtown and the end towards Nicollet. But if the Ryan proposal goes through, marq4, and Excel energy headquarters gets built, there will only be a few blocks left of that side of downtown left to develop. But if the apartment...

Is this good or is this bad?^^^The smaller 5th Street tower is 356 feet so they will be almost identical in height. We are having the start of a little urban canyon in that area!

Re: Brunsfield Place - (915 Washington Avenue North)
Agreed, interestingly could that have something to do with its smaller size, besides the developers and architects actually making it unique. The best new building in the North Loop.

Re: Ward 3
I like the idea for a downtown school. I assume he means high school or if for downtown, because r there is an elementary school in the Loring park neighborhood. Maybe an elementary school for north loop. Urban farming has good intentions but in my opinion is a terrible idea. The idea that a city ne...
