Re: Doran Dinkytown Development

The market slowing in the university makes sense. Because you only have have a certain number of a certain number of students. The university doesn't grow by that much per year. Since the market here is luxury that grows even less for university students, thus for sure university is beginning to end...

Re: Doran Dinkytown Development

Is the apartment boom in Minneapolis in general starting to dry up? Uptown seems to be slowing, the only one I don't know about is downtown. Is this the end, or is it just that there are a lot of units and they will take a little to be absorbed, but there are still people coming?

Re: Soo Line Building Apartments - (501 Marquette Avenue)

Just out of interest, where are you moving from and what is your general age? Don't mean to be intrusive, just curious to see what people are moving to the city.

Re: Nicollet Mall

I think it is fine as an update to the mall. But very unambitious like the other plans, it is the same thing as now. Like same busway in the middle, just take away the existing concrete, put a different material, and have some trees in gravel to have seating. No cool full pedestrian mall, nothing.

Re: Nicollet Mall

I guess but they take up a large amount of space, but go about 20-30 mph max. A bus takes up the road only when it is there, not at all times because of the rails, and can go faster in areas that permit it to.

Re: Public Schools

Well one idea is have more of the qualifying schools. I don't know if that is a real term. But what I mean is, have schools that are public but you have to pass a test to get in. This results in the smarter kids being bunched together, which doesn't help the main public schools, but it can help keep...

Re: Nicollet Mall

Regarding the proposals, I kind of doubt that most of the cool shit will happen, even down to the level of raised intersections but especially the City Center park. As was mentioned above, if public works is unwilling to maintain fountains and clocks, why would they maintain fire pits? If public wo...

Re: Nicollet Mall

You guys proved me wrong, DC is more dense now than MInneapolis, but I can't say anything on how it was before. Atlanta is the best proof. That being said, the NIMBYS screw us over. All those minnesotans will think a subway is outrageous anywhere outside of downtown, and downtown isn't large enough ...

Re: Nicollet Mall

Woofner I feel four stations is far to many for a 4-5 mile stretch on Nicolett [sic]. That would be far too slow, that's why I think subways as a whole on a stretch of Nicolett [sic] can't work. It would have to be all the way down to uptown and when the city is at a larger population.

Re: Public Schools

Yes but in terms of what should be or shouldn't be done I agree that It just kills the bad school further. But in terms of city growth there needs to be some of these "good" schools where kids could be sent and the result is families staying in the city. Does minneapolis have any of these ...

Re: Nicollet Mall

You can't have underground light rail until the city is large enough population wise and land wise. Downtown is too small for this right now and Nicollet isn't long enough for a subway type development. Unless the Sunway goes all the way to uptown and had like 4 stops it could kind of makes sense, b...

Re: Public Schools

Idk the place where kids are sent depends on how full different schools are but I see what you're saying. And that makes sense that it's starting in the elementary level because as kids from the young couples go to elementary they expect good schools, so that is the cities first priority. As they ge...

Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)

Like I said if it's concrete I'll be happy. It will be a change on how things are being built and using the good aspects of 222 it could set a precedent for low rises in the area.

Public Schools

The apartment boom is full of millenials and empty nesters. When focusing on the millenials, the question is will they stay when they have kids? Public schools/ charter/ or special qualifying schools (?) like the International schools are very important. When do you think Minneapolis will put more f...

Thoughts so far are that I can't tell yet if it will look good or not lol, and that it is not that big of a library. Just a regular one story library.

Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)

So is this going to be made of concrete? Or is this just the parking portion and foundation that is always made of concrete? Otherwise its a cool apartment, its not as big and bulky as some of the other buildings we see, it fits perfectly into this little slot. I also think it's cool that it replace...

Re: StoneBridge (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)

Office market was different than the residential market, offices tend to be higher in cities than residential, and there was more demand for it. But the Nicollet almost happened but it didn't for some reasons of the condo crash, so demand was just not there. That's why first smaller happens and gill...

Re: StoneBridge (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)

Exactly right twinscitizen. Like I saw on the cities around the world thread here, new York is building a lot over 1000 ft now. That's clearly because they have no space to build, but a demand to I've there, so old buildings get torn down and massive ones get constructed. We are far from it but even...
