Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Because I like to fantasize and imagine what things might look like (just for giggles), I did my best to scale in 50' height intervals to show how dramatically buildings would affect the skyline at different heights. So much heavy conversation when so much is still up in the air! I took 5 minutes t...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Someone gave me this idea (or maybe I stole it): why not have a roof and NOT heat or cool the inside? In other words, let the sun warm it up naturally or sit inside a cool stadium with no water or wind elements. Is that just stupid? It seemingly would solve the condensation issue... Architects and ...

Re: Capella Tower & LaSalle Plaza
Exactly... they have one (or few) prominent buildings in many that have the ability to do this. And I love cities like Shanghai. But I just think it's tacky. A skyline full of rainbows is my nightmare (and I'm gay). I mean, IDS celebrating vikings, while target does some german visual artist, while...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Ditto. AECOM looked quite promising as well... though I am not a fan of the asymmetry in the interior view.AECOM is the only other one that competes. I'm disappointed by populous... actually.

Re: Vikings Stadium
"Fisher said that all five competing firms offered strong proposals for the Vikings stadium. But he thinks that HKS struck a chord with the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority by pitching the most adventurous concepts."

Re: Vikings Stadium
I really like the horns in the plaza of 'a'... along with the large cutout of the crystal-like, dare I say it, dome. And that's kind of what it reminds me of... a beautiful almost metrodome inspired building. 'B' has really grown on me. I'm more in love with it today than when I first saw it. I gues...

Re: Target Center Renovation
Awesome. Thank you. I have been thinking recently, though, about how congested of a sports market MSP is. Denver is the only smaller 4-team market-- and it doesn't have the Big Ten. I live in Pittsburgh where new stadiums were done on the fly at reasonable cost to the city, county, and taxpayer. Th...

Re: Vikings Stadium
The Journal has obtained "schematic" images from HKS's original bid. Only one of the pictures is showing up for me, but it certainly is different. http://journalmpls.wordpress.com/2012/09/28/journal-obtains-stadium-schematic-images/ first picture is gorgeous. second picture is wonky/slugg...

Re: Vikings Stadium
well... that was fairly uneventful. Here's what I'm getting out of this announcement: HKS can do modern, classic, and everything in between. HKS loves retractable roofs or features... and has experience in doing them.

Re: Vikings Stadium
I think the biggest and most important difference is that the original is very Square in all of the extended glassy areas, and the finished products has all of the great angular faces. Those shard like faces are really what make the stadium unique and dynamic in the space. yes... you are correct. I...

Re: Vikings Stadium
The biggest change is in left field, which has the Budweiser tower thing and another upper deck of seats. Neat pictures though. ok fine.... that's another thing they changed from the initial design. I've been drinking... forgive me. But seriously, my initial statement stands: Broad strokes will fol...

Re: Vikings Stadium
That's right... now I remember. The final design of Target Field is basically the initial design... with a few differences. Mainly, a different look of downtown than what was illustrated, no trees in the outfield, and lighting included in the canopy... But, basically the same idea. My point is that ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Does anybody remember what Target Field initially looked like when populous was first awarded the contract? I don't... But I am curious. These design firms are putting their best concepts forward. I would imagine that the final design would look, in large part, like their best idea that they just pr...

Re: Vikings Stadium
When i first heard they were going to model the new stadium after lucas oil, i freaked out. However, after a little reading, i discovered that they want to model the experience fans have at lucas oil stadium... not exactly the architecture... Thank God. Here's to hoping for (post) modern, clean, and...
