Re: RE: Re: Crime
If we want to fight crime, then we need to fight the causes of crime: poverty and segregation. Having more police officers doesn't address either of those. It is possible to address those things while also investing in policing in a responsible way. People do deserve safe neighborhoods. Sent from m...

It should be permanent. And narrow the traffic lane.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
It's a relatively new bridge and it along with the southern bridge should provide plenty of width. AFAICT, it's being rebuilt in the exact same location.
If it's being rebuilt because TCWR didn't maintain it, then the project had better bill them.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
Can someone explain why the northern bridge over Louisiana had to be demoed? That's where the freight rail will go. Why do any of those bridges need to be touched? The platform is going to be quite a bit south of there.

Well, there's always the chance it was replaced at some point.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
I had wondered about that bridge. Do we know how old it is? Wooden piers sitting in water can't be great.

I would prefer The Mall be an art park/sculpture garden type space. A nice visual way to walk from the library to Lake of the Isles. It seems more fitting for the Uptown vibe than sport courts. This would be fantastic. I enjoy walking there now and this would make it so much better. I feel like fie...

Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
I feel like they would get a lot of walk-up business from residents. People underestimate the number of children in the area. Hmm...maybe a Five Below, then? I don't think it could be that specialized. There used to be a children's shoe store and it closed. But I literally can't but a pair of sneak...

Two things that might work in Uptown: Schuler Shoes and DQ. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk I did a project for Schuler Shoes recently. I can guarantee you, without dedicated, storefront parking it's a nonstarter for them. I feel like they would get a lot of walk-up business from residents. Peo...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
The city really needs to advertise the parking ramps better. There's been a tremendous loss of visible surface parking in the area, which is great, but the ramps are hard to find if you're not familiar with the area and the regional transit service has not caught up to the point of making Uptown or ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Given the experience of the barren 3100 block, I'm a bit hesitant to remove parking. I'm certainly open to it though. I am not sure how one travel lane would work, especially during peak. Things are already backed up multiple blocks south of Franklin in the morning. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapata...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
That ship sailed when we allowed the Great Northern Depot to be redeveloped. The current tracks are oriented the wrong way. We want east-west alignment to best facilitate commuter rail. I am not sure how we would get that now. Backing up along the current alignment and using the existing wye to head...

New owner will rename, renovate troubled 180 E. Fifth building in St. Paul This is a donut shaped building, I imagine the floorplates might be tricky for modern office tenants. Why not convert to apartments? We had some of our offices there before we moved. I much preferred it to Galtier. Much more...

Politicians aren't the best at using the correct terms for transit services. Except Opat has been at the forefront of the project since it started as BRT. He absolutely knows what he's saying. And he had a history of snubbing the Northside, even when he represented part of it. It's devisive languag...
