Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

From 2002
...Christenson, 45, hasn't landed any commitments from the airlines that
would fly routes....
Whoa. That doesn't seem to jive with what I expected. If the article is correct that means he's only 58 today at most. Not in his 70's!

Going to sleep now. Too weird. :|

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

Rick owns buildings in Minneapolis? Yes, apparently. It was a casual offer from last May and I turned it down because I didn't need it and frankly couldn't afford it even if it was at a lowered cost. He didn't specify an address and in retrospect I probably should have asked about it. But as I said...

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

...I have all of my private messages from June on SSC saved and am going to import them to a word file with times and dates and all. I should do the same. I've never communicated with "June" or "Ryan" on LinkedIn - I just saw their posts through Rick's feed. But I have a lot of ...

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

There is a LOT of strangeness to this, just a heads up, I've told Jake and some others about this, but "Ryan" on LinkedIn told me that the announcements for developments would start in April or May. Yes, I saw that too. FYI, as I type this Rick Christenson has - in the last 40 minutes - b...

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

So, if the as-yet unnamed additional major tenant at City Center is Steen & Strom, Ahlens or Von Maur, then maybe Rick is legit too. I'm not holding my breath though. Avian, June told me to delete my comment when I guessed that Steen & Strom were coming to Minneapolis. Ryan was following al...

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

The last message I got from Rick is dated October 11th. It reads: Ron, Just letting you know that my health has taken a serious hit recently. I probably won't be online much for awhile, or at least very little. I asked June to be careful what she posts in the coming months herself on the message boa...

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

So, speaking of renderings, did we ever get better detail from Avian? Didn't he say that at some point he had done some renderings for RB? See the top of page 38 for my take on the situation. The rendering of the weird CC hotel is one I saw well over a year ago now. It was posted on LinkedIn by the...

Re: Rumors!

Sorry. As I noted on SSC I have been house-sitting for some friends and their internet connection is pure crap, so I haven't been reading or posting much the past week. I was pretty taken aback at the SSC forum debacle when I read it today. All I can add is that yes, I too have had some doubts about...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

There is no reason to read it. The fact is we think small and none of these are plans are iconic. It is going to be another Block E part 2. I thought Minneapolis wanted to compete with its peer cities. I was wrong.
Sorry, but if you have no reason to read it you have no reason to comment about it.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

The IDS is 792 feet tall with the window-washing garage. The two broadcast masts bring the height to 910 feet.

Re: Thresher Square Hotel & Washington/Chicago Apartments

It's usually reasonably priced, though it really depends on what you're looking for. As someone mentioned above, it's sort of a cross between Aldi and Whole Foods--bougie, but pretty cheap. I'd shop there often if it were closer. No wonder, since Aldi owns Trader Joe's. I like both, for what they a...

Re: Downtown Hotel News

Oh, sure that. Yes the "official" Nicollet Mall does terminate at Washington. But I've always seen the block between Washington and 1st as the park extension of the mall. Much like the Greenway to Loring as a southern extension of the Mall. As far as "nothing to see/do" past Wash...

Re: Downtown Hotel News

I'm not quite understanding the disappointment in the Yamasaki building. The building's portico is the gateway to a pedestrian "mall" that terminates at 1st Street. That pedestrian greenway with the fountain is an extension of Nicollet Mall, but without the bothersome traffic. The real pro...

Re: Downtown Hotel News

That presumes that good design is based entirely upon opinion, and it's not. Great design survives the vagaries of fashion.

At least, it should. ;)

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

... To Avian's point, the real issue there is that there *ARE* two Dakotas - but the state lines go the wrong way. There's east Dakota, east of the River, which is unquestionably Minnesota; and there's west Dakota, west of the River, which has a history tied to Minnesota but is otherwise unquestion...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)

Granted, Belluschi's building is not the best with it's rifle-slot windows above. But the ground floor is one of the best along the Mall. The transparency and arcade works well. It'll never happen but the ground floor would make a nice market space for small vendors, spilling out onto the plaza in w...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Just Google images for "US regions." There is quite the variety of definitions. If you think "Midwest" is too broad, consider that some maps lump Bismarck ND and San Diego in the same "West" region. The problem with so many of these definitions is that they are based on...

...It's modeled around the Target logo... Now here's an interesting idea that can become architectural. Distill the Target logo into it's most abstract form: In essence the Target logo is a shape surrounding a point . This speaks about being centered . A goal. A destination. That enveloping shape c...

Re: IDS Center

I'm calling b.s. I know people in Minneapolis that don't know the significance of the IDS tower and do not think of it as iconic.
Those who do not know the significance of the IDS - historically and architecturally - are those whose opinions about it are worthless.
