Re: Minneapolis Armory
If we progressed with this idea, we'd essentially be creating yet another single-use building dedicated to a specific sport, probably heavily subsidized by taxpayers, that would attract maybe 5 large weekend events a year. You're totally right, and to be sure the tennis idea is just conjecture to k...

Re: Block E
As someone who has stayed in Graves, a green roof on Block E would definitely be an improvement as far as the view is concerned.

Re: Vikings Stadium
I agree in general, but I'd be more interested in a Scandinavian theme that isn't quite as obvious as a ship.

Re: Saints Lowertown Ballpark
Did anyone read the City Pages profile on the Saints owner? Based on that I wouldn't be surprised if a new stadium was pretty non-traditional.

Re: Minneapolis Armory
There are tons of very nice tennis clubs in the metro. The U of M has its Baseline Tennis Center, which is right next to the women's hockey arena there. The state high school tennis tournament used to be at Northwest on Hwy 100, but it looks like its not at Reed Sweatt in Minneapolis. For volleyball...

Re: 2700 University Ave
It's definitely closer to 280 than it is to the U of M, and Westgate is officially in St. Paul, but as someone who lives here this area anything west of 280 is more affiliated with the U and Minneapolis than Midway or St. Paul. But back on topic, it will be interesting to see if this is marketed tow...

Re: Vikings Stadium
It has always been my impression as well that the Lucas Oil Field comparisons are in regards to the functionality more than the design.

Re: Minneapolis Armory
I like the big-thinking tennis court idea, although the plan writruth laid out is exaggerating the possibilities, namely the "tens of thousands of tennis fans drawn to the east side of downtown for two weeks each July." With a proper facility, good marketing and a good draw, it's definitel...

Re: Block E
If there was something realistic that fit writruth's vision I'd be all for it, but when I see examples like a ski slope in Dubai it just strikes me as a lame attempt at creating a tourist destination out of nothing. I've said this before here, but unless you can move some sort of legitimate cultural...

Re: Block E
Count me among the group who doesn't want to see a big box store or a grocery store in this space. That area on Hennepin is all lit up with theaters, restaurants, dance clubs, etc. Whatever goes in at the ground level needs to mesh with the "entertainment district" that's already there. I ...

Re: 2700 University Ave
Are they actually moving forward with a project here? Or is the Wellington/Doran proposal pretty much just that? This is a prime location, central to everything via freeway and right in front of the light rail station. I'd be really disappointed if whatever ends up here doesn't have first-floor reta...

Re: Radisson Blu
I was just there the other day and couldn't tell: are the reddish-orange areas going to be permanent, or are they going to be covered eventually? The renderings imply that there will be some color, which is good, but I think the bright color up right now looks good.

Mall of America - Bloomington
To get things back up and running, of note from the last few weeks is that Forever 21 is moving into one of the spaces formerly occupied by Bloomingdales. I believe it will take the first floor and previously unused basement space. No word on who takes the other two spaces, but Zara appears to be a ...
