Re: Orange Line (35W BRT)

Good to know their not wrecking American for car traffic. In my dream world they would either sink American down or bridge it over a pedestrian walkway, and possibly the transitway too. On 98th, I noticed that they mention not building too much because of "possible future interchange reconfigur...

Re: Hwy 610

Speaking as a pro-car person in the inner ring suburbs, I support both of these projects even though there of little benefit to me, But it is interesting that the figure I use for the opportunity cost of the bridge to Minnesota- I use 55% of the middle of the estimates, or $343 Million, would pay fo...

Re: Valleyfair - Shakopee

Official plans are typically announced in August, and there's not any rumors to that effect either. The most unsurprising rumor is there's going to be a major waterpark expansion next year, considering that 1) They've spent a lot of money to demolish the Imax and presumably the Hydroblaster that are...

And another popup project for 2015, at County 86. The local agencies said "forget it" to Mn/DOTS proposal to build a reduced conflict intersection, so they're building an interchange instead. http://www.co.dakota.mn.us/Transportation/RoadStudies/Current/Documents/TH52CSAH86Alternative%20B....

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

At first I was opposed to this project, but now I kind of am neutral. I'm thinking taking out the free right might lead to backups for right turning traffic, especially at 66th, but I realized on the other hand since they have to rebuild traffic signals from the ground up that means flashing yellow ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Is it just me or are other initial supporters of the line starting to question the wisdom of proceeding since we apparently can't either move the bike path a block over or buy out the townhouses, and the demands from the parties involved keep getting more expensive and outrageous?

Re: 26th / 28th Streets in South Minneapolis

It's hard to say. Building a new signal from scratch with contractors with all new equipment on suburban stroads can be $150,000-$200,000. But Minneapolis does a lot with city labor and salvaged materials, and have narrower streets and few actuated intersections and we're talking about the increment...

Re: Hennepin & Lyndale Bottleneck Project

I've heard "we could fix all our structurally deficient bridges for what we're spending on the St. Croix Crossing" before, with no real solid numbers to back them. Do those numbers use Minnesota's 55% share of the current cost estimates ($580-$676.9 millions) and what number are they using...

Re: Hennepin & Lyndale Bottleneck Project

Without taking a detailed look at traffic counts and such, my gut reaction to "will it work?" is that you'd want the bypass lane on the northeast to keep traffic from backing up on the ramp down to the freeway.

Re: St. Croix River Crossing

That really is galvanized steel. Mn/DOT changed their standards from painted steel to galvanized steel about 5 years ago. A manager from Iowa, where they had used galvanized steel for years, came up, and Millerbend Mfg out in WInstead, where all of Minnesota's traffic signal steel comes from, opened...

Summary of what's going on this year: *A contract was let by Wisconsin to grade the new freeway from the bridge touchdown to County E, including the WI 35 bridge. WI 35 is closed and detoured. *The first river pier/tower of the bridge structure on the Minnesota side is being built with a temporary c...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Typical cheap, lame fix because we have no money and I don't like when they take away safety shoulders. The right way would be to build another span for some more general traffic lanes and light rail.

Although I won't be buying an electric car until they match the utility of a gasoline one, if I had one I'd prefer to charge up by the interstate, although preferably by a McDonalds or something. To me the point of interstate travel is to bypass towns like Worthington or Albert Lea, not drive throug...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Much as I'd like to see the Normandale and Popular Bridge intersection rebuilt with more turn lanes- I'm not sure if a double left is needed but a free right in the SE corner would be nice, I don't think it's going to happen. I'll probably be at the meeting on the 27th, but I get the idea it's to fi...
