Re: Uptown Restaurant News

I never knew there were so many other locations! I have just been to the one in the crystal court
The one by me in Eagan is usually packed. It's become quite a popular teenager hangout.

Re: Paragon Outlets - Eagan

Looks like the company that manages the St. Paul Hotel wants to build a hotel here as well:

Re: Video Games

I'll cop to having liked Sim City Societies quite a bit, at least with the Destinations expansion. I think it's a fine game if you don't expect it to be another iteration of Sim City and let it be its own thing. I wish the maps were larger and the transportation options were more sophisticated, thou...

Re: Valleyfair

I don't know if the low attendance is from people choosing to go to other amusement parks, as there aren't any around here besides the one at MOA, and the nearest better one is six and a half hours away. I think our state's outdoor culture plays a big role as well compared to other states, what with...

Re: Speed Humps (Plymouth)

I thought some cities actually had prohibitions on speed bumps unless they were on private property because of concerns about the effectiveness and possible liability (as well as the concerns you mention about snow removal and emergency services). I'm not opposed to low speed limits for residential ...

Re: Speed Humps (Plymouth)

I'd be interested in any good resources on speed humps as well. My HOA recently installed temporary ones on my street (when the speed limit is already 15 MPH), and these things are very steep, almost more like parking stops, and even 5 MPH is too fast to go over them -- you pretty much have to crawl...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

In light of the access challenges to the Cedar Grove station, I have to wonder why they built it there to begin with. Is is that they placed a higher priority on the station being next to the redevelopment area than it being on Cedar, was it that BRT wasn't considered at the time, was it that it was...

Re: Paragon Outlets - Eagan

I don't think Minnesota really does high-end retail compared to some places. The developers may want it, but that doesn't mean they'll get it, and in the end they have to go with who signs on if they want to fill up the space. Though I'd say a few of the stores they've named would qualify. And there...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Anyone who supports a substantial change in metro mode share should support SWLRT, as this is an essential step on the only viable path towards increased transit use in the suburbs.
Precisely. People are missing the larger strategic goal here; SWLRT is one step in a larger process.

Re: Paragon Outlets - Eagan

Yeah, that part of town is car-dependent as it is (the transit station nearby notwithstanding), so any development is going to reflect that, at least for now. It's good to see the area finally taking shape. That said, I'm still skeptical that there is demand for high-end apartments in the area (I li...

Seriously, Humphrey is awesome. I prefer flying out of Humphrey - shorter lines everywhere, and as of this year there's great food options - several new places opened this year. Cocina del Barrio is really a great restaurant and not unreasonably priced. A few years ago, not so much, but now the opt...

Re: MN Secretary of State Election

I don't find his statement all that offensive. Risky, yes, perhaps ill-advised because people are all so super-sensitive, but not really offensive or worthy of apology. I'm sorry, but what? He used a racist term, plain and simple. How exactly is that not offensive? I respect what Winkler's done in ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

With that said, I think the reality is that the creation of the suburbs is pretty much antithetical to efficient one-seat transit, and people who choose to live in the suburbs have explicitly chosen to cut themselves off from easy mass transit - every trip, even when transit *is* involved, starts w...

Re: Cedar Ave / Minnehaha Pkwy

My SO lives very close to that intersection, and I've noticed it is often quite hard to make a left turn onto Cedar from 47th. I often end up just going down to the Parkway and turning at the light.

Re: Paragon Outlets - Eagan

Yeah, it's a silly name that doesn't make any sense. How can the Twin Cities be "at" Eagan when Eagan is a part of the Twin Cities? On a related note, an apartment developer now wants to build a high end apartment complex next door to it as well. I'm a bit skeptical of that -- I can see le...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

Yes, I understand that having $10 at once would seem like a fortune to some folks. But this is the Red Line we're talking about, not the homeless living on the streets. How unlikely is it that someone would be boarding at these stations that was in that kind of financial predicament? It's more like...

Re: Target Campus - Brooklyn Park

"Way out in the suburbs" is subjective, though. It wasn't way out there for my coworkers who lived in Elk River or Blaine, though it would certainly have been worse for someone like me coming from Eagan.

Re: Target Campus - Brooklyn Park

I worked at Target (downtown) when this was announced, and the attitudes of people impacted by it were, as you might expect, largely dependent on where they lived. If their commute would shorter, they were for it, and if not, they didn't like it. I always liked working downtown, and it is a selling ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

I'm pretty sure they meant a half mile east, since a half mile west would put it in the middle of an existing subdivision. Plus, east is where the existing open space is.

Re: Upscale outlet mall in Eagan

I don't think any more stores have been announced since Sak's Off Fifth back in December. It seems like we should have heard more concrete details by now. I know the City of Eagan approved the builder for the ramp recently, but that's all.
